Good to hear- sand on ...

In spite of my resolution, I went ahead and started sanding the JB in it's entirety. Found some split wood in the headstock which freaked me out, but I think I stabilized it. It's looking pretty kool now! I'm up to 320 grit and counting ...

i have another with frets that plays like crap, so i'm pleasantly surprised.

this one def needs refinishing, though. it's got all sorts of tiny spots everywhere with what appears to be some white-ish filler, mostly in small cracks along the neck, etc. the lacquer isn't bad on the body, however. i'll post some pics soon :)

here's some pics,

Went up to 2000 grit sandpaper then started on the first Tru oil coat (shown).
I also did a coat of some dye on the fingerboard. I have a different kind of oil (from stewmac) for the fingerboard when the dye is done.

For Consideration:

I thought I would see if there might be anyone interested in a 4-string curly maple Lobe. Back is mahogany, FB is bubinga with one PH stringer. Chrome tuners and a Guy Lewis maple thumbrest. Otherwise it is stock and I have not worked on it yet. For some reason, this one is nicer out of the box than any of the other Wishes I have, so I have left it alone for the time being. I need to make room for my 5-string that is coming soon. Also, this one actually has more grain activity in the maple than what showed up in this pix - still though, it is on the subtle side and not a wild wood like some. What do you all think? (PM me if interested.)

Yeah, 49sfine, if I ever decide to sell it...

essentially, the design I came up with was supposed to be part Lobe (one of wish's styles), and part... well, if you look a ways back I posted the lower horn I wanted. It was supposed to look more like a thumb. He did it, but built it full scale, while I had ordered a shortscale. Had he told me that before putting it up on ebay, I probably would've just taken it that way. by the time I realized that was what happened, someone snagged it.

so when he did the shortscale version, he did something different with the horn.

I completed the finish last night and waxed it today. Then I put some of the hardware and some TI Flats on. I still have to wire it and drill for the jack - because I have a varitone I'm going to install on it, but for now, here's a shot:

Gubna: Can you tell me more about the wax process you used? I put Tru-Oil on my Stude but not any wax. What is that like? What is the additional benefit? - Maybe I missed seeing that listed in the catalog when I orderd the Tru-Oil. Thanks.

Caranuba wax. It's just an additional sealer over the oil finish. Shined it up nice. You apply a bit of it in a circular pattern, and let it dry. It's a bit opaque when you do that, then buff it with a clean guitar cloth. I bought it from Musicians friend a couple years ago when I did another finish on a guitar and a bass.

Smells like the bubblegum you used to get in a pack of baseball cards.

Gubna; Thanks for the info - I will check it out. Say, I emailed Wish about the shape of your bass and he said that shape is actually in his gallery of body styles. He calls it the "PK". Did you know that? I asked him if he planned to make any more in the future and he said he might.
