I've learned that Wish will always knock off $100 shortly after the first auction times out. He usually lists it again later in the evening, so it's important to wake up early and hit "BUY IT NOW" just as soon as you can. There were only 36 "views" before I bought her. ...and she's a good one! The action is incredibly low with no buzzing. I will drop a Varitone and Switchcraft Jack in her and work on the neck and fingerboard a bit.
So that's where that one went! Good for you. I was wondering what happened to it - it looked like a very nice Hyper just from the pix - nice variations in the wood grain and color. It's good to hear that it is set up nice as well. Keep us posted about it.
I tried very hard to get more information out of the guy from Canada about his Hyper (the one that didn't sell - terrible pictures) but had to find out from Wish what the thing was made out of and what number it was. Still, no one is going to buy something they can't even see and he never posted the information I got for him about the bass - a little strange I thought. Oh well ...

3tringPete; Well, here are a couple of views of my red birch Banana bass I just took a few minutes ago. Primarily I am detailing the K&K pup jack install with my brass alloy teardrop access hole cover. This one was sanded smooth, polished and then steel wooled with #0000. I sealed it with Nyalic clear sealer. Also shown is my brown ebony wood bridge and the black nylon strings - which I like a lot but go out of tune easily. They are finicky, which is the best way to describe them. This bass was stripped (to a point), sanded w/all edges rounded & smoothed, neck reshaped a bit, FB leveled and then everything fine sanded. I applied 4 or 5 coats of satin finish spray lacquer after one coat of sanding sealer. If the guitar could have been purchased unfinished I would have stained or sprayed the sides and perhaps done more with the lacquer finish, but this has a nice subdued look to it that will be easy to touch-up should that be needed down the road. - Thanks for looking ...

Friday afternoon my wife and I brought home two 11 week old puppies, brother and sister, Frankie and Emma. They are mutts, Australian shepherd and Border Collie, so they tell us. All of my basses (10) live out on stands in the house. They are part of the furnishings as well as available for play anytime. In preparation for the puppies I put away as many as I had cases or gigbags for. That left my 5 string Hohner, and two Wishbasses out and vulnerable. Being pups they don't yet have free run of the house, til they are trained, but when they have passed by the basses, they don't seem too interested, yet. These are the first dogs for our family and they are awesome; smart, loving, playful, (thank god they have each other) and confident, (not yippers). So how do I know we chose the right dogs? Friday night, their first night in our home, they fell asleep to the sound of old number 88, the cherrywood Peanut, as I wandered around my personal repertoire of silly melodies and bass licks. I was a proud papa.

WR: Yes, they have some kind of metal core. Right now we are going from being very humid one day to very dry the next and I notice the Banana is sensitive to that - I think this is the main reason for the string tuning moving around. Normally we are very, very dry here and now we are in the middle of our monsoon season and it is quite the roller coaster. - I didn't think of that in my earlier posting, oops.

Ah, nylon wrapped. I was wondering; I have a set of TI rounds on an acoustic bass guitar that have nylon cores. They sound pretty good.
The wood on yours looks really nice. Monsoon season? Sounds like Arizona...

Gentlemen; Thank you for the kind words about my Banana bass - it's encouraging. Especially since this is my first shot at working on guitars of any kind.

Thursday night is scheduled for the soldering fest (lesson) on the pups for the Hyper and Stude - yay! After that I can string them up and plug 'em in - can't wait! Only then will I be willing to disassemble the Fantasy and sand, sand, sand ...

I just scored a hard plastic case (foam lined) for my Banana bass - after a pretty long search too. It's an old keyboard case and I picked it up for $50 at a local pawn shop after being told by Music-Go-Round to check with them. It fits this bass with zero mods and is a good fit to boot, which is just awesome. Now I have a safe way to take this thing around and blow some friend's minds! - Looking for a keyboard case vs. a guitar/bass case was what did the trick.

James; Nice puppies - took me a moment to remember which forum I was in, but hey, they're Wishdoggies! I just think you should'nt have passd up an opportunity to include a bass or two in ANY photo you post. Good luck with the potty training.

So is Mr. Wish still building? I'm looking to get one in about 6 months time...
Also, is it possible for him to build the bass for you without you having to do too many modifications and sanding once it arrives? And how is the fret work? Is there a lot of buzz and such?
Don't get me wrong, I love the basses - they are so full of character!

It is my understanding that he farms out his fretwork, and that it is very good. And I'd say it's a safe bet that, at the very least, you will want to sand the neck, to make it faster and smoother. And I wouldn't wait 6 months, I'd order now. Good luck, James
Folks: I could use some feedback about what strings you all are finding that fit. I like a flatwound string on a fretless but so far D'Addarios XL Chromes in the SL series are the only ones I have found that are long enough for Wish's standard scale. I tried a set in just long scale, not super long scale, and now that low E is hitting the nut beyond where the string actually stops and the taper begins. Are these (SL) the only ones that work? I have a set of ECB80SL's on the Stude, but they are too light weight (I am going to leave them on anyway). That just leaves the ECB81SL's. Any other suggestions? Please be specific too, I would like actual model numbers/names so I could find them on Just Strings or elsewhere(?). Thanks in advance!
