Damn, I just ordered a black pearloid pickguard for my Squier white blonde single coil p bass. This has been driving me nuts, I’m thinking of ordering others to try them all.

Personally, I like contrast.
Black PG's on black basses especially with rosewood just looks awful to me.
There's no contrast, just like white/white/ maple.

It's like putting a black racing stripe on a black Ford Mustang, or white on white.
I mean, what's the point? It won't even be noticed from a distance.

Black perl goes with solid colors, black, white, and even solid blue or red,
but not sparkle blue.

In fact, Perl, in general, goes best with solids, but in some cases looks gaudy.
On the other hand, in a few cases, perl kicks down the door.

I think white/BP would look good especially on a P.
This is my humble opinion...057912

For that matter, it seems like putting screws in the holes would just accentuate them more, doing more to detract from the overall appearance than just leaving the small holes.
True, but even the small holes probably can't be seen from more than 10 feet away with that finish.
I assume the clear is for the "without" look....Why bother?

My two Bronco mods left a few holes because the PGs on both are completely different.
I filled the holes with wood putty and covered them with touch-up paint.

From a short distance, you can't tell.
I got the paint at one of those model car/airplane shops for about three bucks...057912

As you obviously know based on your avatar, black and maple is the objectively best color combination for a bass guitar, but I have to say again, why have a sparkly bass if you’re gonna cover it?
Why? How about; because, sometimes a little of something goes a long way - and a lot of that something is way too much. Like, fer instance, my Tom Hamilton Sig. G&L ASAT bass. You think that 'Ray is sparkly? It's an amateur compared to this thing. Even the binding is over-the-top sparkly. I wish to God I could find a pickguard to cover some - any - of that ridiculous bling up. But, left handed ASAT pickguards are a rara avis; so, guess I'll have to keep wearing my shades when I play it...
