I understand what happened and why and yeah, I woulda been so pissed I may have burst a blood vessel! I would have loved to have the opportunity to engage the 'whistle blower' and give them a piece of my mind! Quite possibly assaulted them and give the authorities a 'real' reason to arrest me!

But that's just me. I'm known to be a hothead!

As Munji asked - what if those other two men HAD been up to no good? How do we know they were not two yahoos who wanted to mark the tenth anniversary in their own special way? Would her hour of detainment have been such an ordeal? Would everyone still be playing the race card? No, we'd be waving little flags, exclaiming what a great place this is. Yay! We're safe!

The alternative is to purposefully ignore ALL suspicious behavior if it is done by anyone with pigment in their skin. After all, it is just racial profiling, anyway.

Never talked to a random you've just met on a plane? I have, that's how I have a pretty new german friend :D

At least subconciously, when the person next to you gets up and hits the toilet, I've gone "hmm, I could do with a johhny cash about now too".

Surely terrorists would be smart enough not to sit together or draw immediate attention to themselves like that :p

PS - completelly unrelated, but does Southern Cali have better public transport than most places in the US? I often see folk in the US downplaying their public transport system, but the one in San Diego was pretty ace!

I'm not willing to believe either sides claims at this point.

Well, that is something the authorities and airline can easily check. Not that it would mean much, but they certainly should KNOW whether their tickets were purchased together or separately.

Simply wrong. Take a look at post-Tornado and post Katrina activities by the respective State National guards, which are part of the US Army. If you doubt that they are, find out how many State National guard troops are stationed in Iraq and Afganastan.

This is painting with an exceptionally wide brush, and could be considered "profiling". Did you interact with ALL of the authorities, or could you have encountered one in a bad mood? Did you consider that it could possibly be something about you that causes them to be this way? You obviously have some preconceived stereotypes about these people and if you treat them accordingly you could easily shift them into this mode. Did you greet them with a big smile? I doubt it.

You equate rude with body cavity searches? Perhaps you have not heard that we've had hijackers in the US with bombs in their shoes, underwear, and who knows where else. Drug runners regular cram drugs into their bodies. X-Ray scanning is not available in all airports in the US, and I doubt they are in Europe either. I'm always suspicious when someone uses the word "all". Do you actually think that body cavity searches are widespread? I'd think that there must be a compelling reason to go digging into someones orifices.

True. Or they could vary in proportion to the counters dedication to discovering the truth. For instance, some counters might be Holocost deniers, and if someone could deny the Holocost, maybe, just maybe, we might want to question their numbers.

And some might want to say that the people who brought down the World Trade Center in New York were US government operatives, not Islamic Terrorists. I'd' question thier numbers too.

I still want to know why the FBI went to all this trouble.

So someone reports that two people are acting suspiciously. If this person isn't the air marshal, which there is no indication it is, why take the report seriously? And surely the FBI can figure out that these three people are no threat while the plane is in the air. These guys are either incompetent or abusing the system for overtime.

Also, please stop making light of this woman's plight; she was arrested, detained, and strip searched all without being charged with anything as the result of some overzealous ***hole(s) making bad assumptions. That sounds pretty darn awful to me.

Untrue. Russia is still really bad...

What happened to this women is pretty bad, if she was in Russia, it would have been 10x worse and she would not be writing about it... Further more there would not be any outrage by anyone because of attitude of Russian society right now is; "Who cares about those terrorist blackies."

I was in my backyard at a little after 1 that day when I heard a jet roar by. Of course being 9-11 we were wondering if something was happening. About an hour later I saw on the news that NORAD dispatched at least one F16 to escort a flight from DIA to Detroit due to suspicious passengers spending a lot of time in the bathroom. That must have been the flight.

This is far from the worst of times we could be living in but it sure is a shame that things have to be this way. Stupid terroristics. :spit:
