As a builder I'd way rather have a pickup in a rectangular housing than a MM housing (easier routing).
Also I think some builders and players might be turned off by the huge logo across the face of the pickup. Either way very interesting design work.

What kind of preamp/buffer are you gonna use? Or did I miss that part somewhere on this long thread?

It's half of the face of the pickup. It's big. If I saw a manufactured bass with this logo I'd question if it was an SGD bass. I think the only company who gets away with the huge logo is Bartolini. But if the Wal style pickup had a exposed poles with a small logo I'd be tempted to try a set.
Yep. Tasteful and unobtrusive. And people more than a few feet away sure aren't going to see it. I hardly notice it when I'm looking down at my bass. But I likes it ; }
