Loving the idea of this :) Funnily enough have been half-heartedly looking about for a MEC dual humbucker and electronics replacement, if these are out in the time it takes me to save up for them you could have some interest in what the shipping to UK would be.

You've put some insane amounts of work into this, hopefully once I've worked through my electrical engineering uni course I'll have some idea and a greater appreciation as to what half of the technicalities are about. :D

As a builder I'd way rather have a pickup in a rectangular housing than a MM housing (easier routing).

Yes, for new builds I agree.

Also I think some builders and players might be turned off by the huge logo across the face of the pickup. Either way very interesting design work.

It's very subtle. It would also have to be smaller with pickups with exposed poles

It's half of the face of the pickup. It's big. If I saw a manufactured bass with this logo I'd question if it was an SGD bass. I think the only company who gets away with the huge logo is Bartolini. But if the Wal style pickup had a exposed poles with a small logo I'd be tempted to try a set.

I thought so too but I trusted David anyway and ordered it with the logo, you really cannot see it unless you are looking straight at it with a light shining directly on it.

Yep. Tasteful and unobtrusive. And people more than a few feet away sure aren't going to see it. I hardly notice it when I'm looking down at my bass. But I likes it ; }

I had to angle those into the light to get the logo to show up, and then I also had to adjust the image in photoshop.

Here's a good example... someone just sent me a photo of their bass with the pickups:

You can hardly see the logo at that distance, and I lightened the shadows in Photoshop.

Yes, they are large logos, but you also know an EMG when you see it, and they are small logos.

Such as in this example:

Can you tell they are EMGs? ;)

I do however make OEM pickups for luthiers. You can have them with what ever logo you want, including none.

I own many several basses with a huge logo across the face of the pickups

namely Dingwalls

I've never found the logo having any negative over looks ;) (they are not REALLY sticking out, esp from a distance) or tone :p ; plus, whoever was amazed of the tone, came to ask me after the show about the bass and pickups

PS I am still waiting to receive my SGD equipped bass, so I can have an informed opinion over his pickups (tone and looks ;)). David has sent the pickups a LONG LONG time ago to the luthier, but the luthier had some major problems that delayed him till now (none of the luthiers that frequent on TB). Let's hope all his problems have been resolved and the bass will be shipped very very soon
