Yes. I was working on my own version of the preamp, but thanks to MPU I'm now tracing out the real thing. I will be making some changes to it, but that won't affect how it works.

In small quantities yes. At the moment I have coils ready for five four string pickups. PM if interested.
Thanks to David all the info needed for these pickups was easily available.

An honest estimate would be really nice to know... I'm in the process of building a bass, it's been in the works for about 2 months now and nearing the final stage of completion, and I was really hoping to throw the Wal clone pickups and preamp in this build. If the pickups AND pramp... (would not be interested without the "pick attack" preamp) are going to be available in maybe a month or two then I would hold off finishing and wait. But if it's going to be another 6 months or more then I guess I'll have to throw some other pickups in for the time being.
Either way, I will be buying 2 pickups and preamp when available, but I would hate to shell out the cash for something else and then all of sudden find out these are available.
It sounds like there are a good number of customers just waiting to give you their money for your business...

what about a Kickstarter (/www.kickstarter.com/ ) all interested parts would signup and give a nominal fee that will apply to the purchase of the pickup and-or preamp.
Paul must be pickup up the pace... I got a quote from him about 2 months back, just before I decided to start my own build, and the timeframe I got was a minimum of 19 months.

Geeze... I think we already established that I'm bad with time estimates!
Almighty... for the pickups; I'm starting to fabricate the parts needed to build them. I went through several revisions/prototypes on how to make them. They are very labor intensive, and I'm trying to streamline that. I also changed the design to allow them to be shallower so they will fit into people's basses and not require a 2" deep cavity!
This required doing a few things differently that won't impact the tone of the pickup. I'm still deciding on the best way to wire them up, since there are two different ways to do it. Actually there are a lot of different ways. I'd like people to have some options.
So this should be happening in the next 5-6 weeks.

This will take a little while, and once I'm finished circuit boards have to be made etc. So for the preamp I won't even try and guess, but it should be ready sometime in the summer.

just buy a Wal pickup/pre clone from one of SGD's many competitors...
David, sorry if it's been asked before, but will you have 4 and 5 string versions? Also, will stereo output be an option?

I think I might wait out the 6 weeks then and see where you are at that point, if you're close to being able to build and deliver the pickups I may just get them and replace the preamp later (hopefully SOON after). As I said, either way I want these when you have them available.

Not many PU or Preamp competition make Wal - like electronics , MPU & SDG will make the PUs & maybe one or 2 make Wal-like preamps . So we ll have to wait .
