Worlds First Drum Machine in Pedal Form!

...it sounds like this is in fact a very low-risk proposition for early backers.

Has there been a mention yet of the minimum buy-in?
I know it's somewhere between 'penny-stock' and Berkshire-Hathaway - but where ?

Even if the risk is low, there's an upper bound on how much I can afford to lose on a purely speculative investment. For that matter, there's an upper bound on the amount of cash I can divert from day-to-day expenses for even a sure thing (like a savings account...).

No matter how much I believe in the product, investing $10,000 to save $50 on a pedal won't wash with the family finances. I'd be better off (as would all the rest of the investors) just buying one at retail when they're available...

If the minimum buy in is "reasonable" I can take the flyer, but at some point it won't make sense...

He had prices on the previous page. The estimated retail price is $350. Crowdfunders will get pedals in the $180-240 range. You're not really "investing" in the sense that you will continue to get dividends. You're just getting a steep discount on the first run of pedals in order to get production rolling.

OK - so now I'm confused.

"The campaign" is really just a big pre-buy affair?

I thought there was a -separate- investment amount that qualified you to buy a pedal at a discount.

Calling David - can you de-confuse me please ?

Thanks...

You might want to read up on the concept of crowdfunding in general. It's basically halfway between the two. Instead of large investments, you get people who want the product/service to pledge funds, similar to what they would pay for the product, in return for discounts and/or bonus perks and/or seeing the product happen at all. I'll let David answer beyond that.

Yes, essentially crowdfunding is a pre-order campaign so that dedicated supporters can help bring the product to market and receive a steep discount and other bonus perks. This allows companies to avoid selling equity to investors and to gauge the market demand for the product as well as get feedback from users about how to improve the product.

Check out kickstarter.com and indiegogo.com for examples of campaigns.

Let me know if there's still any confusion.

David is the MIDI connection a standard 5 pin connection? From the picture it looks almost like something else.

In order to fit both the MIDI in and out ports while still keeping the BeatBuddy in a single pedal format, we use a port compatible with the ROCKTRON 006-2026 cable to convert to 5 pin. Please note that we will not be including it with the BeatBuddy, as most of our users will not use the MIDI function - so it would drive the price up for everyone. But they only cost $10:

Do you have a date in mind when you are going to open the Croudfunding piece? I would like to get involved in the project.

YES!!!

WE WILL BE LAUNCHING ON INDIEGOGO THIS MONDAY, DEC 16 AT 11AM EST!!!

HERE'S THE LINK: Invalid Link Removed

(the link will go live at launch).

A reminder to everyone: The first people to pre-order the BeatBuddy will get the best prices. We expect the first batches to sell out quickly, so make sure you get in early.

What will be your policy on software-updates? Will the "New beats and drum sets available for download on regular basis" for free or for sale?
And what about new operating systems, will the Beatbuddy-software be compatible.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We will have both free and paid downloads -- though we will keep the paid ones affordable. We will also have a forum where users can share their beats and drum sets with each other.

The software will be compatible for PC and MAC. Any other operating system will have to have significant users using it for us to convert the software to it.

So will the pedal be able to do MIDI through, i.e., pass the tempo along to another pedal? If so this is GREAT news!

YES! It has both MIDI IN and OUT -- so it can both control other MIDI devices and be controlled by them. Tempo, start, stop -- all the major MIDI Sync functions are supported.

Again, this is great news. I have three MIDI-capable pedals already, but one (Line6 M5) doesn't do tempo out or thru, so when I saw only one port I was worried the Beat Buddy only had MIDI IN. I'm happy to pay for the $10 cable as opposed to the other options I was being forced to consider (1-in, multi-out MIDI boxes in the $40-60 range).
