Worship Bass Pedalboards

This P5 talk gets me excited...absolutely my fav bass for worship music—Sadowsky NYC P5 (pj) active/passive, with Flats...

Not to get off topic, but what kind of flats do you use? I like them on my fake McCartney bass for that particular sound, but I have yet to find some I like in a worship setting. I like them in theory, but I don't like the dead thump sound for worship. But I haven't tried many different kinds.

I'm not currently using them, but you might try DR Legend Flats. I have used them in the past and liked them.

Currently using DR Nickel Lowriders.

I figured DR would probably have a good option. I have been a Marcus Miller Fat Beam user exclusively for years. After going through 30+ sets on my Lull P5, they were the best of the bunch by a long shot. And they last forever. I use them on everything. But sometimes in worship I feel they get a bit too clanky on my jazz bass, and I'd like something a little smoother, but maybe not all the way to a flatwound string. I like a really stiff string, though. The MM's are stiff and beefy, but a bit too "grippy" and clanky. Might have to give the lowriders a try. I'm pretty sure they are stiffer strings because they're designed to ride low without clank. We'll see.

I keep trying flats on my P5's and keep coming back to rounds. I've used Dunlop Flats, DR Legends, Fender 9050's, EB Cobalt Flats, LaBella DTF's, and TI's. The idea of flats really appeals to me and I want to love them but I always feel like something is missing and come back to rounds. Right now I'm using DR Pure Blues and Fender 7250's with a preference for the Fenders.

Sadowsky BLUE flats 40-125's... They recently redesigned them (I was using the prior version, too) and the new ones are much more consistent string to string, with a nice (mids-focused) cutting thump right out of the package... R-e-a-l-l-y nice feel, too! :thumbsup:

It's strung with Labella 760FL's.. Absolutely love the feel and sound .. my D Lakin JO is strung with DR Black Beauties .. a different flavor of good, to me.. but , I find myself gravitating toward the P more often .. it just hits that sweet spot for me..

Oh man. That Duck Dunn is a fabulous beast. I used to have one and miss it dearly. It's a tone machine.

I have a 2011 Fender P5 with TIs that are pushing 3 years old. It's my least used bass for some reason. It's all stock. It records great, I mean just killer tone. So, this week I forced myself to use it. I had two gigs plus church on Sunday. They were all situations where I normally use roundwounds. I didn't miss it at the two gigs, the tone was great and I loved the feel. And I got lots of compliments and no one could tell I was using flats (I asked everyone who said hi LOL). But on Sunday the tone sounded a little thin to me. I think it's because I used in ear monitors. People at church said the bass sounded really huge. So I don't know.

Before I decided to take it out this week, I actually had ordered some new pickups and new strings and a new wiring harness. Maybe the tone is better than I think and the difference is just it in ear monitors?

Almost bought one several times. P with a jazz neck and a matching headstock...perfection!

I use La Bella 760FLs on both my Wals and love them!

I find no lack of sustain alongside the strong fundamental "thumps. The thing that amazed me when I first went over to them was how they settled in the opposite way round to rounds. Alter a few weeks playing the upper middle really opened out to give a much more balanced but still fundamental heavy tone. Sooooooooooo nice! And still so versatile. TBH, though, never I was and will never be a slapper!

Yep, agreed 100% .. I'm still hearing little changed in them, for the better.. every time I play , I literally stop , grin, and say out loud.. "man that sounds so good" :D

I do have a set of Sadowsky Blue lable 45,65,85,105.. that I'm going to try on my D Lakin JO.. they'll have to be crazy amazing to make me like them better than my 760FL's ;)

TEASER ALERT! So those of you familiar with Flatirons know that from time to time we'll do a live countdown just for fun... And this weekend we're doing a tune that will stretch my playing like nothing we've done before. I'm so excited for it! Biggest concern at the moment is do I play my lakland 55-01 or the house G&L L-2500? I'm gonna have pick, finger style and slap all in one set.
