Started as standard but then got slightly tweaked over time...

Not a fan of distortion so got the BSF because it's so low gain. Lots of dry blended in so no tone suck issues. Just some odd bite here or there or synthing up the Wah a bit for EDM stuff like Planetshakers or H Y&F. So an effect not an always on thing.

I have a VT bass I'm breaking up with. never found a drive that works for me on it and no point having it as a clean pedal IMHO.

Thinking (cheapest to priciest) joyo ultimate drive, bass soul food, mxr bass OD, solidgoldfx beta germanium.

I really like the sound I get with my Darkglass VMTD and HIGHLY recommend it. For a head, I have a Darkglass M900 and I love being able to switch in the B3K section gives me a lot of OD when I want it. I guess I have to admit to being a Darkglass Fanboi! I'm sure I will get one of the A/O ultras in the future.

Agreed but I'm pretty stuck on the SVT settings for the most part.

From the manual:

CHARACTER sweeps through an entire range of tonal possibilities associated with Ampeg®-
style amplifiers. In addition to modifying the frequency response, the Character control also influences
the attack and drive characteristics. Therefore, you may need to adjust your gain and tone
settings after tweaking the Character control.
  • Settings below 12 o'clock will give you the '70s powerhouse, the SVT.
  • Around 12 o'clock will introduce you to the studio staple, the flip top.
  • Above 12 o'clock increases the gain and crunch for less polite, modern rock, indie bass sounds.
  • Full up gives you distorted bass tones from Yes to Crimson to King's X styles.

MID, LOW, HIGH. Unlike passive controls that only cut, these active tone controls cut
or boost ±12dB from unity gain (12 o'clock). Mid is 500 Hz. Low is 125 Hz. High is 3.2kHz.

I recently purchased a Novo 18 and have begun putting my "go-rig" together for both my praise service playing as well as my Christian Metal setting. So far I have my wireless receiver, Boss Tuner, Duncan Studio Bass, DI box and an Alpha Omega Ultra. I am planning on adding a chorus and a TC Sub-N-Up octave.
I have a fair amount of space left for more pedals, but I honestly can't think of anything else that I need to have. Are there any "must have" pedals or something that I have overlooked which you think I might should consider adding? Have contemplated an always on HPF, possibly a wah (but I'm not much of a wah player and think it might be a waste of space/money). Any suggestions and general wisdom is appreciated.

I do like having a good compressor but my sound person knows that I have it on and does not add compression to my channel - YMMVAL! (Your Mileage May Vary A LOT!) I use the Darkglass Super Symmetry because it is a great compressor, allows a lot of adjustments to the tone, and just looks SO cool! I tried a bunch of pedals before and since and the only other one that floats my boat are the varieties of the Cali 76 compressor.

Probably the most FUN pedal I have is the Eventide H9. TONS of great algorithms and all of them done well. Also, an amazing tuner that is really precise...I tend to use the Turbo Tuner that is on my board because I am obsessive enough that chasing "perfect" tuning can be a problem - for me, at least. I do use the H9 tuner for setups and adjustments. As accurate as the Turbo Tuner is, the H9 is just a bit more so.

I got the Novo 24 with the hard case as the bass gear is going from California to Florida on a moving truck and I love the extra space on it. I am keeping the Metro 24 "just in case" I need a second board. On the 24 I use the Turbo Tuner, Darkglass Super Symmetry and VMTD, Eventide and Digitech pedal to control patches, Red Witch Factotum, 3Leaf Wonderlove, volume pedal and Mission pedal controlling the H9.

DSM OmniCabSimDeluxe. I have one sitting in customs at the moment. I can't wait for it to get here. I fully expect it to be life-altering. Or at the very least, significantly tone-altering. Plus it has the headphone amp to facilitate practice and dialing in tones.

I also have a wah that I never use. I do have a chorus and reverb that I use on occasion to fill out the sound in mellow spots or when I'm playing up high. But I'm a child of the 80's, so chorus is in my blood. It's not for everyone, and it's certainly not a "need" in my book. Especially if you have multiple guitarists or a keyboardist to fill out the sound. When I play in worship settings, it's usually a 3-4 piece band, so I'm trying to do a little extra to fill it out in spots.

With my having the Alpha Omega Ultra, I have a cab sim on it already, so getting the OCSD might be overkill. Maybe it wouldn't. Just don't know that I see a use for it currently.
Yeah I'm an 80s kid too, so chorus is definitely something I like to use. Some of the first bass guitar I paid attention to as a kid was on Def Leppard and Guns N Roses albums. While I may not use chorus during the services I play for, I could definitely use it with my primary band situation, as it's a 1 guitar band and I need to fill up a lot of space. Have seen some interesting tricks using chorus that may have a positive effect, but will have to tinker to see if my theories will be usable. Have been contemplating getting a reverb or delay pedal to thicken things up. Also considered borrowing my guitarists TC Mimiq pedal to see if artificial doubling would sound good or just muddy things up.

A lot of folks here are using the OCSD with an Ultra that has cab sim. Not only is the OCSD a cab sim, it is a variable cab sim. Some even use only the OCSD, it's that good. YMMV ...

I've got one on they way, and it's either sitting in customs or the Bermuda Triangle. Tracking doesn't seem to indicate which :)

I'm kinda with ya on this one and it's partly why I've never gotten into the Tech21 stuff (or really any "SVT" pedal). To me the SVT has a girth and warmth to it that can be pushed into bright and clanky, but it ALWAYS has that heft to it. In my opinion of course.

If you use an amp, maybe . . . . maaayyybe . . . . you don't neeeed it. But if you're ampless, I'm going to go out on a limb and almost call it a must-have. Or at least something like it. And I haven't even gotten mine in the mail yet upon which to base that claim. But I dare you . . . no . . . I triple DOG dare you to watch this video and not want one:
