Nice and simple. I have thought about trying one of those Art Tube MP's. I'm sick of trying to find a solid tube tone from a tube sim that doesn't have an actual tube in it. They're close-ish, but always leave me wanting more. But I can't afford one of the higher end Noble, SLO, or Reddi's for example. Can you turn the gain up enough to get any kind of overdrive out of it?

I have heard that the Art does not respond well to dialing up gain for overdrive purposes, so at this point I'm just running it clean. It does that very well, and I'm more than happy with it that way.

Caveat - I have read that the Art comes with a poor choice for a tube, so I purchased a Tung-Sol 12AX7 when I bought the Art, and replaced it immediately. Also, it comes with an AC power supply (wall wart), and if you decide to power it with a pedal board power supply, you will need to use something like Voodoo Labs Pedal Power AC to power it. It does not use DC power. I'm currently using the adapter, but thinking about the Pedal Power AC, but that would require a larger board then my Metro 24. Always something ... :)

Om not loving playing synth bass. More to set up and go wrong. Rather play bass I think, not sure.

What's your one pedal solution for synth bass. I'm going to be in "The big city" a couple times next month and want to try some things out.

Steve, that is one reason I went ETX Micro bass synth. Can basically get what I need it with minimal setup. I was tempted to toy with the Moog Minitaur (probably a Christmas purchase), but all campuses (Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, AL) have access to a Moog Sub Phatty.

I use a Korg micro now which is fine, but I really only use about 3 sounds on it. Seems like overkill. I'm not an "effects" guy at all, but maybe it's worth it to not have a keyboard to haul around and it frees up a channel on the board for something....

That was my reasoning for a pedal versus big Moog purchase. How often do I need it? Maybe first song of Worship every so often and then for our big Worship night (first Wed) and student worship.

R-a-b-b-i-t h-o-l-e . . .vs Moog SubPhatty.

I tried the microKorg XL, and found the tiny keys a real distraction. Playing synth bass on my SUBsequent 37, with larger/great touch keys and real deal sound...is quite different (and fun to play...) A/B switchers can get you down to using one channel...

I know you don't want to haul a keyboard around, but you also don't like to haul around (or churn thru) effects. Go play a Moog SubPhatty when you're there...before jumping into that laaaarge synth pedal rabbit hole. (my .02 from being in that hole, and getting back out...)

Highly recommend the Broughton Super Stack...

TB Broughton thread consensus: SS enjoys being fed by many flavors of dirt, too (I use MBD-1>SS...) SS uses a single Tung-Sol 12AX7, and requires 12v/250mV.

MBD-1 and SS are easily my two all-time fav pedals...

If you only use a few synth sounds then I'm not sure a spendy pedal is what you want either, but I'm a big believer in the Future Impact, and the forthcoming C4 Synth by Source Audio also looks good.

Yeah, I may be stuck with a synth. I mean, the really good pedals like the Future Impact are really expensive. More than my little Korg, but it not as much as a Moog synth. Maybe the mini keys are part of it. When I was debating between this and a Novation with full size keys, I didn't think that it was a big deal. Maybe a more "real" synth would be different. Not as toylike along side the Nords and stuff. We have enough channels so that's not a real consideration, just a happy outcome.
