Worship Bass Pedalboards

Here's my current setup.
I went with all EHX pedals because they all plug in the same location, and I like these.

Current revamped setup on the new 12x24 Emerson pedalboard. It will have it's WT debut in a week. This week I'll be straight to my Bergantino Forte HP / NXT212 rig. Ignore the settings - I bumped them in the move.

So instead of trying to find a Tube DI and preamp, maybe just a tube DI (I like the Khan) and an eq pedal.

Cant beat the new Source Audio EQ2 pedal if you want bang-for-buck in a smallish pedal. 10band, highpass filter, midi controllable, multiple presets, limiter, noise gate, and a tuner, all in a 1590B format. Connect it to your computer and tweak to your hearts content.

The LA-1a into the Khan sounds great. You won't have as much flexibility as a preamp/DI with EQ control but maybe/probably not necessary.

Every preamp I've tried into the Khan thus far sounds wonderful (Broughton SVPre and Silver Deluxe, Barber Linden, Trickfish Minnow). And tube mode makes everything sound warmer and fuller, and really warms up my drives just deliciously.

Well, we never seem to be "done" but good choice on the Westone UM30's. I've had mine for a while now and they are great.

The LA-1a into the Khan sounds great. You won't have as much flexibility as a preamp/DI with EQ control but maybe/probably not necessary.

The Khan is about the only DI that I've listened to on my iPhone where I hear a difference. Kind of like the LA-1A. I know there's a ton of love for the Noble and others, but the Khan is pretty darn nice. No, it doesn't give me eq options, but I may have to find another way around that. Other than the Noble and P-15, there aren't many that do. The other plus of the Khan - like the Noble and P-15 - is that the tube effect also goes to the 1/4" out/through jack to an amp. For the few times I use an amp that would be nice.

Until I get my P bass figured out I'll just be using my active 5's live. That solves the eq issue for now.

Tha last couple gigs the P didn't seem to have much bit on end to it. I also tend to overplay it. I have TI's on it now and am going to try some different (DTF) strings with a little higher tension. See if that helps the playing part. I'm not sure about the eq/lack of bottom part.

The other thing is I have zero motivation or desire to play right now. I'm guessing it'll pass but who knows. I have put off a synth purchase or pedals to equal a synth purchase or a Tube DI purchase until I decide if it's worth it or not. If I'll be playing on a year. Probably at church but I'm undecided with the cover band. It's a lot of work (when we're playing) hauling and setting up sound and lights, late nights, early mornings, you know, the stuff the mo ru is for. I like the people and I like playing with them, I just don't seem to miss it as much As they seem to right now.

I took it once and they were like "what is in the case...?" And I said "music pedalboard" and the TSA agent was like "well thats boring, I thought it was something exciting like a gun or something." Hahaha

You don't really "need" a pedal board any more than a heroin, crack-cocaine, or meth junky really "needs" their next fix. Seriously, if you have a good soundman they can throw a splash of flavor on your bass at the board and EQ it, but you pretty much keep the same tone for every song that way and you're subject to hoping for the elusive soundguy that loves and understands bass.

Yes, I play through a pedal board into my Ampeg SVT 7-Pro head, then DI out of the 7-Pro to the house and also run my 810E out of the head as backline. I never turn the head much past 1 so to speak for stage monitor. The balanced line out of head sends the colored DI signal so I'm getting my preferred sound and EQ to the front of the house and when I use effects in songs, they are also getting to the front of the house. I must say that this is a fun situation for me. I tend to blend the effects for subtle use, not in your face much unless the rare tune calls for it as in the original bass part is pretty in your face.

Your fine. I play Tuner - DI - MS60 - Clean Boost - Out. It works great.

Ahhh, the ever elusive white unicorn . . . the good soundman/woman/person who loves and understands bass. That's why I started this whole pedal board journey a few years ago. I got sick of playing in churches with soundmen who had no idea what they were doing. I decided to take my tone into my own hands and send the best compressed, EQ'd signal I could to the FOH, so all they had to do was - hopefully - turn up the fader. But even that doesn't always happen.
