Worship Bass Pedalboards

I believe the consensus is to use the AGS always on at low gain instead of thinking of it as an OD pedal or dual channel DI.

That's how mine is set, 7 or 8 o'clock on the gain. Depending on the bass and strings for either more or less, gives a nice warm wool to the tone when digging in. Haven't tried the AGS not engaged yet for a set to compare in the mix but prolly will at some point.

I wouldn't say all have the same sound. Like Bethel for instance uses a lot of overdrive and maverick city most of it is recorded on a mustang bass with flats overdriven. But the majority of Hillsong, Elevation, Community and many others are that bass microsynth into a tone hammer and all sound pretty much the same. There's variation in EQ and mix obviously but the basic tone is very similar. When I hear someone refer to " that worship bass tone " that's what my mind goes to. That staple of microsynth into tone hammer.
I think it's very important to be ourselves though. Not every worship team is going to sound great or even like that tone as most don't have all the stuff to try to cut through in the mix that those guys have. I've tried the tone hammer and it just wasn't for me or the sanctuary at that time I just could never get it to dial in for me. I've always leaned more towards a mid emphasis Ampeg tone.

That's about what I have except I'm ampless. Di only with iem. So I'm using the origin effects super vintage set to what my ears hear as an svt4pro from what I remember. Just a hint of breakup on it. Mxr bass compressor. Hx effects with obsidian set as a pure clean tone if I need it. valve drive for extra drive if needed. And the pitch shifter. One set to -12 to give a clean octave down, one in case a song key is changed last minute and I've already learned it in a particular position I can use the pitch shifter for a whole step and get by but I wouldn't go past that because the tone starts to noticably change

It's been rare to try to emulate the original sound of songs at any of the churches I've played with. Every once in a while we'd try to do a song the same way it was recorded, just because. Mostly we make them our own, which I love.

I try to strike a balance. I can't always play a song note for note but I'll get it as close as I can and others I will add little things that are more " my style " which is basically just a mediocre grudge bassist lol

Classic rock is my basic heartbeat, but I bring a little of most things in at some point. I’m not great at any of them but can fake my way through at least some songs in most styles!

Lookie what came today. I never got a tracking number from Warmoth and thought it was still at least a month away.

I tried to get photos, but didn't have my color card and the camera kept shooting the neck way too light. I tried to color match in photoshop, but am not very good at that. I failed. Anyways, here is the neck.

I'm a lot older than most of you I suspect, but man, I miss the old Integrity Hosanna days with Abe Laboriel, Craig Nelson and Don Harris... clean, warm and sooooooooo musical...

I dunno... P&W to me, has become a "business" all unto itself. And yes, I am fully aware I'll be shot down in flames for my utter heresy, but man, it's become an industry... anyway... bless you all... some very tasty pedalboards (and yes, I used to have a monster board not too long ago)

Not by me you won't I agree, so much of the modern stuff lends itself more to "performance" as opposed to "leading people into the Throneroom."

Not talking performance, not at all... but there is always an element of "performance" involved... if not, there would an open door to just anyone to sing, or play... because hey, their hearts are in the right place. The Levites were the best musicians in Israel, and like us (I hope) they practiced, and like us (I really hope), they enjoyed the simple act of actually playing music.

I highly doubt my staccato 8th notes, nor my flurries across the neck ever lead anyone into the presence of God, but I do know that my enjoyment of playing music and interacting with the other musicians, as well as worshipping, have (for want of a better term) encouraged others to be more free in their own worship.

Just for the record, the reason I miss older P&W, is because back in the day, there wasn't any "oh look, they've used 1-5-6-4 again!".... but that is just my pet hate hahahaha

It's ALL about leading people into God's presence... if I play a p bass, or a Rickenbacker, or a 6 string Fodera, it matter not one iota to God, or the person three rows from the back... nor does "is it a Darkglass, or an MXR, or an early 80's Rat" matter at all..

Anyway... off I go, back to my corner.

It always has been. I can remember back when I was younger the gospel groups coming to town with 3 huge your busses and selling out the Auditoriums.
It's just more mainstream now.

I've never had a problem with gospel and P&W "acts" selling out sitting rooms all the way to massive stadiums. I just think it's become a little more formulaic now... but anyway, my 10c (or 10p)
