I would have thought it was a fuzz or OD. But, a very nice sounding fuzz or OD. It has a lot of weight and fullness to it. I had a Micro Synth a number of years ago, but never put it to good use. I'll probably stick with octave and gain style pedals, but it's an interesting pedal for sure.

1. I use an octave pedal at high energy song climaxes to add extra bass. This is especially useful on a 4 string basses for songs in C and D. usually 50/50 dry/sub-octave blend.

2. For songs that have a higher more melodic bass lines at the intro or beginning of the song 75/25 dry/sub-octave blend aka "the pino setting"

I'll mess around with this, thank you. I've mostly played with a low B string so that may be why I never felt the need for a suboctave outside of generating synth tones.

You can buy them direct from Max, the builder, at this link.

I waited months for one to come up in the classifieds. Never happened. So I ordered a new one (Max even accommodated my color choice) and then, a couple months later, ordered yet another for my second board. Since then I still haven't seen one in the classifieds lol. Folks hang on to them.

I really hate mine. Going to sell it when I get back from tour. There were a few settings I liked, but it was super touchy/sensitive and sometimes the octaves would freak out if I was playing hard. I ended up grabbing and OC2 and was much happier. But many many folks seem to LOVE them.

To my ear, I think you're right. Doesn't sound like the Microsynth to me. He recently added a DCX Bass to his board & to me that sounds like Octave into the DCX.

I'd also point out that he says "Do I use an Octave pedal too much?"; if he were referring to the BMS I would think he would have said that.

I run an Octamizer into DCX & there is just something magic about how the DCX saturates when hit with a sub+clean signal.

A lot of dudes are using the BMS in a way that you can achieve with an octave, fuzz or distortion and chorus. Basically, very mild settings. The BMS can get out of hand easily if you aren't carefull. I borrowed for a lil bit… it's nice cuz it's a one button tool. As opposed to turning on three pedals "at once" and tap dancing like crazy. At least that my experience…

Interesting Im finding running some type of harmonic distortion enhanced modulation ,filters and octavers, I'll have to try that... Are you using EQ or OD mode?

hard to beat a BDDI v2. all ya gotta do is turn it on and you sound good. I'll always have one.

the DCX bass is also a fantastic choice! Unless you need a DI on the pre amp.

Popular preamps (with DI) that I see in a worship context are:
  • Noble
  • Arkham Oracle (just released a smaller version)
  • Shift Line Olympic MKIIIS
  • Origin Effects BassRigs
  • Aguilar ToneHammer
  • Sansamp
There are many others, of course (WR Goliath, Caveman BP-1, GP-Lightstone Emperor, Grace ALiX, various Broughton Audio offerings, etc.), but the ones I listed I tend to see the most.

DCX Bass is great, but it's not a preamp. It's a tone-shaper and overdrive, but not something with which you can drive a power amp.

Sansamp is a safe bet. Great value, sounds good. MasterEffects is lesser known, but has a line of preamps based on various popular amps. If you want the tone of any of those amps, the ME pre version will likely make you very happy.
