I tried the comps again. I'm still not loving it. I just think that the combo of the HPF and the Noble is just right. Adding a compressor isn't really adding a whole lot, and sometimes taking away from it. I've tried all sorts of different settings. I even went to the manuals to see the suggested settings. Nothing really jumped out as an overall improvement. I'm not giving up on it. But, I'm shifting my focus to higher gain drives. Then I'll eventually come back to trying compressors.

I spoke too soon on the Darkglass Anagram. The more I research, the better it looks. This may be my summer project while I'm on church service hiatus until September. Great explanation video attached. This thing seems to be a hot seller, as well. There are NAM models available for the Tone Hammer, DCX Bass and Kilt already posted.

Time off is dangerous. :)
I'm happy I got a month to experiment with my board and I think I'm making some improvements.
But, I'm also happy that my deadline is almost up since I'll be starting back in June.

Seems like the time is right for the Anagram though. You should be able to get a really good feel for it by September.

Have you ever tried the Union Tube & Transistors LAB compressor with the Noble? With just a kiss of compression?

I’m enjoying your process. Thinking out loud, trying, testing, etc. I think this is really cool to watch it unfold. Then you’ll show a final image and it’ll be amazing. Like usual…😀!

Thanks. Though, if I posted every configuration, you might be getting tired of it by now!! :laugh:
I probably had a half dozen boards wired up to try new things.
I haven't posted every configuration because I feel like I'm constantly saying "this is the best pedal ever! Why did I ever take it off the board?" and then I spend more time with it and it's not so great after all. But, wait, no, it is great. Maybe.
So, I've just been posting periodic updates so I'm not constantly contradicting myself.
In the end, all the boards I had wired up would work. But then I couldn't sit around and stress about the tonal differences between 2 amazing overdrives. What fun would that be?

Right now, I'm sitting here thinking about the new Empress Bass ParaEQ. It would work great in the spot where a compressor would go. But, is it absolutely 100% necessary? Probably. :D

My 'deadline' is June 1st. So, I'm wrapping things up. When it's 'finished' I'll post it up. And next month, I may post the new new board. But, I'm glad I did this because I'm learning a lot and I'm happier with my tone than I've been. Not that I was disappointed in it. But, I'm just more happy now.

Here is where I am in the process.

I wired this up to test some things. To keep it simple, I wanted it to be small so I wasn't trying 10 pedals at once.

I really liked it as is. But, the board was too low for the HPF to fit underneath and I wanted a higher gain drive. So, I pulled out my Temple Solo board and put the HPF underneath.
That gives me room for a Rat style pedal, and moving the wireless to the top allows me to fit a mini octave pedal too.
But, I would have room for one more pedal at the top. Hold on, I'll mock it up............................................

Some of the pedals are 'stand ins' since Pedal Playground doesn't have everything, and I'm not sure what will end up on the board.
But, I could go with a compressor or something like the ParaEQ up top. Not that I *need* them, but I can't have a gaping hole there, right? This would cover almost everything that I need. I suppose I could put a chorus pedal up there for when we play Same God once a year.

The only other compressor I have is the Cali76. I like it, but I still wasn’t completely satisfied. Scubaduba recommended the LAB Noble combination so I gave it a try. He was right!

The original is amazing. I didn't think there was much they could improve on it. This one has different eq points which is kind of cool.

I used an Empress ParaEQ Deluxe with an Empress Bass Compressor to a REDDDI for a while and it was the best tone I ever had. I went Stomp to get some effects and keep it small and...it's fine as I use the pitch shift a lot instead of bringing a 2nd bass, but, if I could I'd go back to my simple, all analog set up...

...but the future seems to be in modeling and these "do it all" pedals so it seems like going back to individual pedals is a step backwards? IDK.

I've gone back and forth between analog and digital. But the Noble always stayed. I also did a preamp shootout a while back and nothing jumped out at me as a possible replacement.
Of course, it's not for everyone. But, if you don't like it, you could get your money back pretty quickly.
The Anagram offers a lot too. And it could be that all the drives are spot on. It's hard to say without trying it. Or at least getting more user feedback.
