Fenders MIA Jazzes (new), sorry, but all of the ones I've played have disappointed me. Also, IMHO, having to try several before finding one that's "good"... that just means its crap with some exceptions.

By "new" how new do you mean?

geez, i hope the lightwave manufacturer isnt on these boards, but i played 3 different lightwave basses, and i really disliked them all.

i just dont think that the technology is there yet (still)

Fodera Monarch, Victor Wooten, and Monarch 5. While The Monarch is the greatest Venture Bros. character, Fodera's Monarch is not the greatest bass.

I'm also not cool with the Gibson Thunderbird bass. I had fun, fun, fun WHEN Daddy took the T-Bird away. Interesting...

I also am not a huge Ibanez bass fan, despite the fact they're super commonplace in Madison.

Totally agree. This bass is garbage!

I used to own a Godin SD5, which I think was the predecessor to the Freeway. It wasn't a horrible bass but it wasn't great either. The sound was lacklustre and the B string sucked. I could have done better at that price point.

IMO the least desireable bass over 800 is a vintage hoffner. Violin bass, beetle bass, call it what you will. YUK.

I am not sure how much the new ones are, but IMO IME if you are doing anything but looking at them then they are being over used.

re the T-bird...
Funny, I wanted to like the Tbird but played a few and just couldnt. I kept it to myself though, as if it was sacrelidge to dislike it.

I played a 76 reissue Tbird in a rockabilly band when I was 17.(1978) That is THE LAST time I bought a bass on looks ( it fit the theme). Its all about fitment, and your desired voice. I wont dis Warwick, but the neck of the one I picked up at GC would knock a few levels off my playing.

anyway, B.C. Rich because half of what you're paying for is the look, and Fender, not because they're bad, just because there are many, many, many better basses for much less money IMO/IME.

Ouch! Looks like everyone is giving the 'Bird "The bird" here

While it may be a bit quirky and certainly takes some time to find the sweet spots, I have never gotten so many complements on tone as I have with my 'bird. Overpriced at almost $2K? You bet. The worst bass for the money? *Mine* wasn't!

MTD Saratoga 5. Played like an old squire, but it sure was pretty though. Bartolini pups and select switch mid eq. Paid $900 used, but was more like a $600 bass.

that's what i was wondering, too. what's with all the hate?

in my opinion, it's really pretty simple. if you think a bass is overpriced, then don't buy it. that doesn't mean the bass is worthless or lousy or anything else.
