My warwick 1992 thumb neck thru. The neck really bugged me.

So I sold it about a month later. Really nice basses to awe yer buddies with and they sound good, just not $3000 good.

Were the 96 jazz pickups the ones that were designed by Suhr for Fender? I owned an american deluxe J back then, and it was to date the best FENDER jazz I have ever heard... PLUS it was a beautiful transparent teal over ash with a maple board. Sweet bass but the A-Bass put her to shame! The one complaint I did have was that it didnt sound "modern" at all even with active electronics. It just sounded like a hyper jazz bass... but thats exactly what it was?

I am going to have to put my vote in for Yamaha and the original John Myung signature bass. I am a huge DT fan, but this bass was a pretty big dissappointment for me. It sounded like crap and the frets were terribly unclean. The one I had had a dead spot in the top of the fretboard (tried having it professionally setup.. no dice) and it was heavy as lead. I loved the neck profile/spacing on that bass, but everything else was lame. As soon as I bought it I was wishing I had gone for a Peavey Cirrus. Actually the fretboard was really cool (ebony is nice to..) and the woods were nice, but everything about that bass screamed CHEAP compared to other high end basses. They could have at least put some nice sounding pickups in there. Maybe mine was just a lemon... I hope the newer ones arent as bad =P

I haven't tried the tbird but as i read from (a late issue of a magazine) the bassist of the band darkness (i don't remember his name), said that he haven't heared a tbird that doesn't sound terrible. I can't confirm but since you said this may be there is some truth to it.

he hasn't heard my epi, find of the century if i do say so myself.

also, +1 on warwicks, those things sound pretty gross even though i like the baseball bat necks on 'em

The lamest bass I ever owned was a '73 Precision, it was the most lovelessly assembled piece of junk. Talk about about a company living off a reputation
