Worst Neckdive You've Experienced

This bass.
When it was fretted.

But it doesn't dive now.
Now it's fretless.
And it has Hipshot Ultralite tuners.
And I use a wide,soft Comfort Strapp.
No dive.
Hands off.

I bought this Gamma on a whim. It's freakishly light, which appealed to me because the band I was in would sometimes play four-hour sets with no breaks. However, I think the neck may weigh more than the body, so if I'm wearing the wrong shirt (something other than cotton?) the strap will slip and I have to hold it up with my left hand.

Worst neckdive?

Esp viper. Was a shame too because it actually looked and sounded pretty good for rock and metal. This is the nicer set neck version. Mahogany body, nice flamed maple top, EMG 35dc pickups.

Second worst would have to be my bolt on thumb bass. I didn’t have neck dive issues I couldn’t work out with a good strap or a wireless pack with either of my neck through thumbs, my guess is because the bubinga bodies were noticeably heavier. I think the bolt on was an ovankol body and wenge neck I bought that bass around 2001 or so. But yeah the bolt on was a bit of a chore to play. Another sad situation because that bolt on thumb had a badass in your face midrange where my thumb NT 5 and 6 were great basses but we’re more typical sounding. Better lows and highs but a much more tame midrange

Weird. I have one set up as a piccolo bass that doesn't dive at all. It's definitely neck heavy but doesn't move when I let go of it.

I've had a Dean flying V, a Hofner Shorty and a Dearmond Starfire that were all much worse.
Oh, jeez, I forgot how bad the hofner was... And I had one of the CTS which are semi solid...

I honestly think in the future if I find a bass I really like the sound and feel of that has neck dive issues I’m just gonna go for it. Looking at the strap pin placement on my ng2 and especially on the d-bird has definitely made me think “maybe I could have just moved the darn strap pins”

This is the d-bird their take on a thunderbird

Check out where the rear strap pin is on the ng2 also. Notice it’s not in the typical location. This was a little odd when I was attaching Wireless pack to the strap. I actually had to move the pack farther down than I’m used to so the cable had plenty of slack.but my ng2 has nice balance for a relatively light 5 string.

Wow that thing is neat. I’d love to hear it, that pickup spacing is very interesting
Oh, it sounded great! But it really was a ..

too bad, I swear. But any of the P/J's of Washburn from the 1978 Vulture II thru the Force series up to 1984 were/are great--and very under-appreciated--basses. Good thing is you can get them at very , very reasonable prices when you can find them. I have 8 of the them :D

In no particular order...

A late 70s Kramer with an aluminum neck, can't recall the model.

Both of my Warwick Thumbs from around '90, NT, 4 and 5 stringers.

Both of my (past and present) Gibson EB-0L (34" scale)

'71 Precision Bass, very light, very resonant, very neck-heavy for whatever reason

All of that being said, the issue of neck dive has never bothered me *that* much and was willing to live with it if the instrument in question played and sounded well.

This Matsumoku built 80s Memphis bass. Tiny body plus a 34" scale neck-thru - the recipe for for dive.

Drop dead beautiful wood, and a sweet floomy prog sort of tone. But it neck dives faster than Dracula. A wide suede back leather strap fixes it since it's so light.
