Absolutely not. A one piece body could have that much variation. If it looked like that on the back where the seam shows? Sure.

Not an emergency, but these Sires are rarely this light.

That's a big reason I kept mine... a 5-string Z7 and just 8.0 lbs after being used to an 11+ lbs Ray35... yes please.

If it were a $2,000+ instrument yes. The level of dissatisfaction would decrease incrementally for every dollar under $2,000.

Well, the term "mismatch" implies that there are two things that are not matched. There aren't. There's one thing; one piece of wood whose grain varies over its width.

I don't know. In a way it's kind of cool. But the bass probably costs in the $2000 range, no? Did you online order it? It's under 9 pounds? If the two things are true and you like the bass, the feel and the sound, then perhaps contact the retailer and ask for a generous discount. I dunno.

I want to point out this is not a 1 piece body as some are starting to say. It simply has a pattern that is similar to how a 1 piece looks.

I prefer natural basses.
That being said,I'm fairly choosy about the top of the bass.

It can be naturally asymmetrical.
As long as it's not unnaturally asymmetrical.

It seems that the makers could have book matched the pieces to match them.
Or they could've used a one piece top like mine above.
But didn't care to.
They took two different pieces and bonded them together.

And that I couldn't tolerate.

If it were under a really well done 3 tone burst Nitro finish? Nope; wouldn't bother me at all. As it is now? It just looks... unfinished. The wood grain, IMO, is not nice enough - front and back - to stand on it's own. Sorry; but, you did ask...

Its distinctive. No. Wood’s gonna wood. Several of my ash basses have grain mismatch, but it’s a choice body wood and still sounds very good.
