Would you allow your Child to attend a public execution ?

that depends entirely upon your conception of what it takes to kill some one.

A gaurd, a gunman, a ditch, and some one to use a shovel.
some paperwork... which I can see being the expensive part, but like I said we are in control so why not make it less of a hastle to do?

certianly not $48k
I'd rather think that depends entirely on your view of the constitution and the rights afforded to US citizens, than what it "takes to kill someone". However, YMMV.

true but thats not what the criminal was thinking when they did what they did to get themselves on death row... you loose certian rights when your a criminal. and so it should be and if we wanted to change it we could.

thats what im getting at. think out-side the box of our current constructed mode of society. It is in our hands to decide how people are dealt with and how much their worth etc...

im not saying be malicious. Just creative.

A friend of mine once fooled with me with an execution video. He brought up his cell phone and said "hey watch this".It was a very short video.Any time some one touched my neck,I screamed and jumped for a month. And I felt terrible -remembering- writing this.:(

I think I know the exact video you're referring to. Military summary execution is always a twitchy subject, especially since it is illegal under international law.

That implies that all inmates on Death Row are actually guilty. A heavy assumption that has been proven time and time again to be completely incorrect.

you all make excelent points, points which are more or less common knowledge but yet it seems you miss the point of my statment. This is not about the calling for a moral judgment or the actual value of a criminals life or anything like that, I was pointing out the fixed mentality expressed by so many people and their inability to even consider an alternative method to our now capitalistic prison system which is more of a buisness than anything else and its about the idea that its up to the people to change things.

back on topic - Yes I advocate public exocution for anyone who wants to watch it or will let their children watch it just like they would go out and buy them GTA4 for x-mas :hmm:

I caught it, I just don't know how to go that route without it getting political. :hmm:

I'm not saying I'm disagreeing, mind you!

I'm shocked!!!
If you really think that... I'm shocked :scowl:

I think it's more like ...If you do not think about it, there's not much of a difference.

Why's this thread still open?????

Whats there to be shocked about? You tell me the difference in seeing someone blown quite graphically in half in movies like Saving Private Ryan or someone getting shot to death on those tv shows that show actual murders than than there is in witnessing a live execution? You can still hear the screaming in the movie/shows, see the extreme violence and graphic nature of it in them as well. Ironically, the countries that do hold public executions statistically have a lower crime rate than here in the United States. BTW, scowl me all you want, I really dont give a f***

 I'm a bit confused here.

Circumcision is a medical procedure (well here it is.) Who implied it was an action to scare people?

Are we talking about the same thing here ?

Or do you mean female circumcision, which is cruelty to women. This kind has no medical point, but is just plain cruelty IMO. And it's performed not as punishment.

Male circumcision also has no medical point to it either. It is primarily a religious and asthetic (sp) value on why it is done on males here. Male circumcision is just as cruel as it is to females. No pain killers are given and the doctor just cuts the foreskin right off. Some studies have shown that this is quite traumatic in males and causes them trust issues, emotional issues, bitterness, etc.

Well, if we consider there is no difference between those three things, and don't teach the semantics of these graphic images and videos, kids can grow up being very confused about the fictional and the non-fictional.
Their ethics can be screwed up.

And that can lead to things like:

- Recently in the news (and here in OT): Australian kid feeds reptiles to crocodile.

- Few years ago in the UK: 2 kids torture and beat up toddler to death.

If you are talking about circumcisions on childs that have no say in it, I totally agree with you. I feel they should have a choice.

But it also can be out of medical reasons.
There exists a sort of skin condition you can have down there. (Sorry, can't tell more about it, I'm no docter.) And the only remedy is circumcision.
Doesn't occur a lot though.

I won't go there.

Seeing something in a movie, tv, or a video game is not at all like witnessing the real deal.

What is there to gain by allowing a child to witness an execution? Any sane parent would never allow their child to witness the taking of another life for the purposes of punishment, or for any other reason come to that. It's a parents responsibility to protect their child and witnessing such an event would no doubt have a serious long term psychological effect on a child. I wouldn't be much of a parent if I allowed that to happen.

I don't doubt that capital punishment has it's place in society but making it a public spectacle where you take the family and sit there with a bucket of popcorn is a big NO! in my opinion. Are there parents out there that would allow this? I hope not. :(

+1 on most of this post!
I do not agree on capital punishment having it's place in society and I am glad not to live in a society where it does
Well in some it still does unfortunatelly, but I don't think that it should.
