Would you turn down $800 Million?

Whoa…forgot to tell my Robert Plant story. While in London for 1979 UK gigs, spent 20 minutes at the bar of a private London club, chatting about single-malt scotch (it was my first trip to the UK and I was young) with a charming guy with long blond hair. After returning to my table, our road manager (who had come up through the music management ranks doing advance work for Zep tours) asked how I'd enjoyed my chat with Robert Plant. I'd no idea that this decent and articulate guy was Robert Plant.

And yes, even though my primary orientation is jazz/latin/brazilian stuff, I dig most of the Led Zeppelin work greatly, and also admire many of Plant's post-Zeppelin projects. The carping on this thread, from certain poo-poo heads, is incomprehensible…some very sour grapes, I suspect.

They're not all there, but the new reissues of the Zep catalog come with many mixes sans vocals. Usually they are "working mixes" and so not quite as polished as the final versions, but about as close as they are ever gonna get.

Haven't been trying to "pepper the thread", I was simply responding to people who were taking jabs at what I said. Personally, I think my musical tastes are quite "mature" (with a healthy soft spot for well placed immaturity) and I simply cant stand that bunch. Waaaay overrated.... all further comments will be in the club.

Whoa - I saw that performance, but don't remember that - was at a Super Bowl party and might have been topping off my drink. Heading for Youtube now!

Some people are really getting their panties in a knot over this. Musical tastes aren't objective. If someone doesn't like Zep, it's really just stupid to argue that they are wrong. I happen to like Zep, but I can see how some people could not like them. Justin 'Beaver,' Brittany Spears, Katy Perry are like nails on a chalkboard to me, but 100 million teeny bloopers seem to like them.

I am sure he caught the guardians totally by surprise. That guitar didn't look that phallic except in silhouette. I imagine he used different guitars all through rehearsals and just brought that one out for the performance. By the time anyone realized what he was up to it was too late. Heh, heh.

It's like the "wardrobe malfunction" stunt that Janet Jackson pulled at the earlier Super Bowl halftime. No one goes out wearing pasties under their clothes not expecting to expose them.

Prince was a big rip off artist. His entire stage show and act he ripped off from Rick James. And it's the riff between MTV and Rick James that got Prince on MTV and made a hit out of a song that was essentially dead.

I saw an interview of Little Richard a few years ago, and at the end of it the interviewer asked him, "I hear you have a message for Prince. What is it?"

Little Richard answered," Yes, I do." He looked straight at the camera and said, "Prince, get your own act! WoooOoooOoooOoooOooo!"

Even if you have a burning hatred toward Zeppelin, you have to at least acknowledge that there are some incredible bass lines in their music. I mean, how about "Black Dog"? Listen to how the drums work over the main riff. Not so easy to play either.

I know this is a whole other ballgame but my band turned down playing with our musical idols 2 shows in a row because we would have had to sell tickets. We could have easily sold the tickets, offers to buy them were flooding in as soon as it was rumored we may be on the shows, but it would have compromised our principles. Round about way of saying that in our bracket that was the equivalent of us turning down the 800 mill. If we had 9 figure net worths we could easily turn that down

I'm aware that they perform stairway but I've never heard it. Well scratch that I have a cd with great white doing stairway. And I've heard part of dyer maker. So I wouldn't know
