Wounded Paw - Battering Ram

Just wanted to jump in with a few comments of my own.

A) While I know it's possible to wire a pedal for dual bypass so that it could be an OD or a fuzz that was not the point in my design for this one. I wanted to layer the two with the OD keeping a growly but intact low end and a fuzz adding the higher registers. Not that there isn't a lot of overlap there.
It's a parallel processed pedal which means that both the OD and the fuzz get a clean signal, do their thing and then get mixed together. A lot of design work went into making this effective.
It's not overdriven and then sent to the fuzz like 2 stage pedals.
Personally I use it with OD on almost all the time and hit the fuzz (with sustain cranked up) to add in when relevant.
Like mentioned you can get fuzz only by turning down the OD level.

B) I didn't really see having the overdrive/bypass on the left as being backwards but it seems I am in the minority there. I can switch the jacks around so IN is on the right but switching the stompswitches is a lot more difficult because of the interior design. There is not much room left for alterations because there's lots of stuff to fit in the rather small box. It's only 3.5"x4.5" (same as Attack Goat but sideways). The PCB is actually designed to fit closely to the switches and pots.

C) The LO switch is because the Battering Ram is also not bad on guitar without too much low end muddying up the sound. A bassist will definitely want that switch in the on position to get the full range.

So... anybody know when Tonefactor will be selling these? I'm too cheap/broke to pay shipping from Canada.
Yes, it took me nearly TWO WEEKS to figure out that the prices I was looking at were in Canadarian Dollarz. Needless to say, I ordered one and it arrived some time later. I really liked the pedal in the bedroom (there's a joke in there somewhere), which made me wary that it wouldn't quite work in a mix, much like usual distortions that I enjoy on the home front. After the first band practice with this unit, said suspicions unfortunately rang true. I got buried. Alas!

However, I was not content with just one use and a quick flip. I have done that in the past, back when I was rolling in the proverbial dough, and likely missed out on some great equipment because my patience was much more shallow than my pockets. Now that I am Effing Broke, I try and spent a bit more time with anything I actually have to scrounge through the couch cushions just to afford. Thankfully I did just that with this here Ram as used for Battering. I left my entire board at home last evening solely bringing this one pedal, and, for whatever reason, I very much enjoyed its sounds in a mix. No, the fuzz side does not stand out quite as aggressively like I thought it would, but it does get through fine enough. The overdrive side settles in very well, not buried, just, in a word, nicely. One song in particular that I generally utilize fuzz throughout the entirety of it, I bounced back and forth between overdrive and kicking on the additional fuzz in parts where I needed to stand out more. It worked immensely well for this, which solidifies its hereby announced reputation as an excellent Grab-n-Go effect, something I have been searching for for ages when gigging in situations that require not a plethora of equipment to be laid before me. Several allegedly versatile distortion pedals filled this role for me at various times throughout the years, but the myriad tones at home turned into One Buried Bass and nothing more in a band context. Finally, I think this one truly fits the bill in terms of Useful Usefulness.

No clips yet. Why? Haven't felt like it really, and there are already quite a few that exist. Also, I'm tired of recording dirt boxes direct, they usually sound like crap that way. Some day I'll get a microphone cable that isn't worthless, beyond practicing my Indiana Jones impersonation that is.

I hope to hear one sometime, seems like a great pedal!

I thoroughly enjoyed this post. Not so at the expense of your monetary condition (I have been unemployed for 4 months now) but relating to the quick turn-around or rock-then-roll mentality.:D

+1. Been there done that. I started out with 4 pedals on guitar: MD-2, TU-2, RV-5 and a PW-10.

I then somewhere along the line switched to bass (so I could downtune further LOL), and discovered this board.

It pretty much evolved too fast, looking back now, and I got scared that it was too big and downsized to a multi (and went thru 3 of those plus some singles :scowl:)

Not quite buy->flip right away, but really, too much change in too little time.

Moral of this story: Even tho I have a job and recently dropped 1200$ on car insurance without batting an eye, i decided some time back to plan this mother OUT, and the only real change from the original plan is going for a multi over the 3 other pedals that I would've gone with to complete it (thereby saving me time, AND $$$)

Its almost midnight and I felt the need to rant a little. Thanks to nad and Jerry J for the inspiration :D

sorry for bringing a nearly year old thread back to life but...

Just wondering if any Battering Ram users would be willing to share their favorite settings. I just got mine and have been dialing in a sound...it is awesome that there are so many possibilities. Anyways just wanted to hear what others are doing with it.

Thought you guys might be interested to see that Preston at Wounded Paw will build you whatever you want....

I wasn't a fan of having to bend over for the "low" and "octave" switches.
