Interesting point.
Where the string is plucked has quite an effect on the tone. Since I float my right hand it's no big deal for me but a movable thumbrest might be of concern to those who use one.
I like the moving pickups idea but not the aesthetics of that implementation.

As mentioned before, it is a great and practical idea to have movable pickups but it looks absolutely ridiculous.

Interesting but, I agree that the open cavity, exposed wires, and etc looks like an unfinished build - and ugly. Plus IME, it just seems like another thing that will break.

I was prepared to not like it, but after seeing/hearing the vid it's pretty cool. Great range for various pu placement. I like how you hear the change while moving the pu's as a open note rings. Talk about "tone dialing"!

Guy was Pink Floyd's touring bassist...I doubt that he worried too much about the price.I won't even ask how much it costs
Having heard the results, I would be all for a bass like this with a slightly larger body, and maybe some kind of finish to the pickup cavity that made it look less . . . unfinished. I am sure something could be done.
A larger body would help make the pickup cavity less of a gaping hole. The tonal possibilities are really cool. I'm pretty big these days on doing as much as I can with just the instrument.

But seriously, since it's a sig model, I think they're paying him. Or at least giving him a few free ones.
I think its a cool idea but really if you play enough basses you get good idea here you like the pickups anyways. And I agree they should have done something different cosmetically. And I'm sure its ******** expensive for a bass to experiment with.
Mike Pope's Viceroy has had a sliding pickup for a couple years. Not to mention the removable upper four frets. The concept works very well on that bass.

I just had them build my Viceroy with the bridge pickup in the '70s jazz position. The sound is yum.

Yup, Guy is definitely a member here, he has chimed in before but I don't think he hangs out on the regular.
Awesome bass would love to try one, I have no idea what it costs but I know it is more than I would ever spend on a bass assuredly.
