And then the obvious devolution would be hanging them from the ceiling.
1985, Central Sales in Cambridge had a zillion jazz boxes hanging from the ceiling on piano wire. Someone from Japan bought the entire inventory one day around 1987.

I think Frankenbass may be that Warmoth P but you're right, I may have forgotten the SR HH.
There are definitely holes in this list. I just acquired another SR HH yesterday, a pound or more lighter than the old one, matching headstock, tobacoo burst, very happy with it.

Sounds like you're on a journey where you've gained some valuable insights, but have a ways to go. That's good and honest.

I love taking periodic looks backwards to take stock and personally my look was quite encouraging.

The post below was my addition and was the last post to this thread back in 2020.

I'm a little proud to say that's almost exactly where I am now. Same 6 basses for almost 6 years now and I've only added one amp, a V3 Rumble 100 that I stumbled across for $100 that makes my back much happier than my B100R. I have bought and sold some pedal steel guitar gear, but that's a pretty stable connection as well.

One other observation was that 2020 was in the middle of the most busy gigging I'd ever done and I wondered if perhaps all the playing was distracting me from buying. However, I'm 18 months out of weekly bass gigging and I've still got no desire to start buying again.

Now if only I can bring this kind of no/low-buying contentment over to my other hobbies...

Tim, that list is making me feel seen. Between 2004 and 2020, I think I was close to putting up those numbers on the bass side, and a few more six-string guitars than I'd care to admit to. After COVID kicked in, I really started to reassess, especially after live gigging for me took a long pause. Happy to be playing again, but with a smaller stable.

I'm not going to update my list right now in this thread (it is current in my profile) but, if I am not mistaken (and I probably *am* mistaken by a little bit), I own/have owned 161 basses since 2004. That is ridiculous... I am slightly ashamed but music/bass is really my only hobby. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Side note: my wife has owned 5 basses, which includes the 3 she has currently, since she started playing in 2024.)

(Side note 2: I've shockingly only had 2 wives since 2004, lol.)

With music/bass as your only hobby, i'd say you're making out well. You have a hobby that has visual, tactile and audible benefits.

As long as you are not neglecting whatever else you need to pay for in life, keep enjoying it!

No, I've never paid anything late. Have more debt than I want but it's not all bass related and we have great jobs and will get it knocked out in the next year or so. Hopefully. At least I have lots of home equity... and bass equity. 🤣
