Wow! Prices sure jumped!!

I like threads where people get dismissively argumentative... it really makes it easy to know who needs ignoring. ;)

That's a staple here. And when you don't fall into lockstep you're considered the turd in the punchbowl. An Outlier.
:D

If I actually listened to alot of these opinions as facts guys I'd miss out on so much over the years. I prefer experience. Then again I don't think that I've ever considered any of my failures as universal.

Instead I've used rounds on fretless, mixed cabs, never asked a guitarist how many watts I need to quadruple, used light gauge B strings, ordered basses with specific sonic goals in mind, etc.

Then again my life could've been so much simpler playing a P bass with flats through an SVT rig that I'd need a bigger vehicle to transport. While wearing cargo shorts.
;)

Well this is going off the rail. I made a half joking post about greed and upping profits and it starts going political. If living wages are so important, I guess nobody should complain about higher prices then, right? I live in California and see what is happening here. A living wage is fine, but over 100,000 homeless and addicts living on the streets pretty much over rides living wages, plastic straws and all of the other stuff going on in our state capitol. Our roads suck, our cities are filthy with feces and needles and the rest of the state burns to ashes from fires. Highest taxes in the US for what? I am surprised that every company hasn't left this state. Hopefully GK stays profitable and doesn't end up like SWR, Genz Benz and others. Too many great companies are gone and it is our loss.

You get who you (California) vote for....
I was in Northern Cali last fall (including Redding, briefly). Thumpin’, you may be exaggerating JUST slightly.;) There’s a lot of beauty in that state. And the data obviously shows that there’s a ton of economic growth, too, despite what some may want to believe.

As for wages, I sure hope the folks putting together $1000 cabinets are making more than the minimum to begin with.

Not exaggerating at all. When a town (Paradise) and the surrounding area burn to the ground, that is not an exaggeration. When a beautiful national recreation area (Whiskeytown lake) and most of western and northern Shasta county are decimated by fire, that is not an exaggeration. Many of my musician friends lost their homes and all of their belongings and music gear. Sorry my friend, that is not an exaggeration. The only economic growth currently in this area is the business of trying to rebuild. Oh, and also weed. Statewide, companies are leaving as well as thousands of people. I plan to be one soon. An example is the cost to rent a Uhaul one way out of California is in the thousands while a one way into California is a few hundred. Called supply and demand.

I never claimed that GK is paying minimum wages to build their cabs. The point is that the costs of doing business in this state has gotten ridiculous, which could contribute to the rise in cost of the cabinets. That was my point. Wasn't trying to stir up :poop:. Have a great weekend and a happy 4th.

Understood. I didn't address the fires, because it seemed like the main complaints had to do with the government there, and I don't think they could do more on that front (though I may be wrong). I was mainly talking about addicts, feces and needles everywhere in the cities and the roads being terrible. We drove down from Oregon, through the Redwoods, then east to Redding, Chico, and Paradise (more on that in a minute), and then all over San Francisco and didn't experience hardly any of that (one or two aggressive homeless guys in SF, that's it). The economy in California overall is doing well by pretty much any statistical measure, I think there is a narrative being sold by some for their own purposes (not you) that is the opposite. I'm sure there are areas that are not, that's true in any state.

The fires have been tragic and terrible. I'm really sorry about your friends' losses, I can definitely sympathize. My wife's maid of honor lives in Paradise, we were at her house about six weeks before the fire swept through. She was one of those folks who had to leave their cars and run for their lives (along with her daughter and dog). They lost everything, but thank goodness they were safe. She's in the Chico area now, and doing somewhat better. Best of luck to you on the move.

Well FWER he went away from those designs for a reason. I was using Schroeder as a comparison. These look like old Schroeder designs to me.

And then my last stab at those BBC cabs is the 2200 watts thing, there is no way your going to cram 2200 watts into that small a cab and at that point I'm out because the specs are screwy.

Paging @JimmyM weren't you telling me your thoughts on super duper HP drivers in a normal sized cab the other day? Care to take a stab at 2200 watts in a standard sized speaker cab? [This invalid link has been removed]

I am not looking at specs.. I play through a Matrix every week. I have not giged with it yet ..it is not my cab.. but it is clean... I do as I said have a Tank 1210 and that cab is fantastic.. no farting ... no rattles... No matter the volume.. With the amps I have it is flawless.. Like I said.. if you ever get the chance to try one do so... I think you will be pleased.I had a 1212L Schro ... It was a great cab but it seemed too midsy to me... but that could have been my EQing.. I am a bit more knowledgeable now that. I was then ... but that Tank is just an awesome cab. I have heard the Matrix with other bass players .. and it is great too...

You could ask Jorg directly, he'd probably tell you. My guess... as sales fall off, businesses look for new directions.

Unless you've looked at the internals of both cabs, I'm not clear on what about the BBC looks like the Schroeder. Hell, I own a Tech Soundsystems 1212 with angled internal driver and it doesn't look like a Schroeder either. The Schroeder was a direct descendant of the Tech Soundsystem. The BBC is not. It's a sealed cabinet.

The Matrix came about after I was forced out of the company. No clue what's up with it but I will say that asking someone else to guess about it... that works here but seems pointless.
:D

My Tank 1210 is rated at 1200w. I've cranked it with 1500w and 2500w rigs to test the limits. It gets way more than loud enough with my 800w Quilter. Power handling is often a bone of contention here when in reality, with 500w these cabs will get way too loud for most folks.

Good to know...

Sure, wrong guesses are just as welcome here.
;)

If it's using two Faital Pro rated at 600w each and a 1,000w 15 I'd guess that's where he got the rating. If it performs similarly to the other Tanks I wouldn't want to be around hitting it with 1,000w watts.

I was shocked at the amount of power I found I could push my Tank 1012 with. You'd probably guess that I couldn't. And like most folks, maximum output isn't the point. I played outdoors Saturday night with minimal FOH and the sound engineer, out of the blue, told me I had one of the top three live bass tones he'd ever heard. Cut through effortlessly in the mix. I had the Master on the Quilter at 160w.
:D

Nice ...

Appreciate that. Sorry about your wife's friend's loss. Too many lost lives and homes. The state rather than going after PG&E for causing the Paradise fire because of lack of maintenance of their lines, gives them a pass. Amazing what pay offs to corrupt leaders does. So now we get to have our power turned off on extreme fire days when it is 100+. That is a lot easier than clearing around their power lines.

My brother lives in southern Cal and drives through the homeless encampments that line the streets of LA. The numbers are around 57000 in LA and a bit more in the Bay area. Diseases are running rampant in LA from those encampments from the filth and increasing rat population. The city of San Francisco has hired feces and needle cleanup patrols rather than trying to fix the problem. Common to see junkies shooting up at Bart stations. The state made stealing anything under $1500 more or less a non-crime. So shop lifting is very common as well as home break ins. I am 61 and was born and raised here and I've watched the deterioration of this state. Tomorrow we get another 5 cents per gallon gas tax added to the $4 per gallon we already are paying. Supposed to be for roads but never gets there.
I5 is in poor shape as well as most of the main highways in the state. I know because I drive them daily.
I don't know where you get your economic information about this state, but the only place doing well is the Silicon Valley and Hollywood. I watch businesses fold every month. We have the highest taxes in the nation, right up there with New York. That was why I made the comment of taxes possibly causing the higher prices from GK.

I think this thread has been hijacked enough, so I am done.

My sister and her son's family lost their homes in the Camp Fire. What a nightmare. She literally got saved by her other son, who drove into it and got her and her elderly neighbor out along with their pets. He's now working on the clean-up crews. It's a catastrophe.

I talked about this a while back. Mass produced 112 cabs for 6, 7, or even 8 hundred bucks. Might as well pay the smaller cab builders who do nothing but make cabs.
At the other end of the spectrum.......Peavey makes a decent 112 for less than $300. I have one I bought for rehearsals. If I didn't already have rigs, I'd buy a second one. They thump.

I noticed here in Australia the Neo 112 went from around $650 to $999 which is what they sold for about 10 years ago here. The exchange rate has not changed much so it's probably a new pricing strategy. I guess GK don't want to be perceived as a "cheap" brand and to be honest, they're not. I have 2 of these and a 1001RB head and they sound great. True though that there are a lot more options in that price range.

I don't doubt the cabs sound fine and may even perform stellar. My original point was that those specs are outrageous and there isn't a cab that size (with that cubic volume) that would take that kind of power and function properly, its a physics thing. I would suggest they reduce their maximum wattage specs to a more reasonable number for the size of the cab or give us a demonstration of 2200 watts going into that cab. I wouldn't need to play one to know that will not work. Its that simple.
