Wow! Prices sure jumped!!

That may be the cause since they are in California. The state has forced companies to increase the minimum wage and they have raised business taxes quite a bit. Pretty much why so many companies are leaving this state. Very business unfriendly.

Yeah.. Supporting people making a living wage is messed up....

I'm not complaining about the increase in price, because GK has the
right to charge what they want. I chimed in to mention that I noticed the increase
in price.
Heck, my Avatar 2x12 that I purchased on Ebay over 3 yrs. ago for about
$400 + now sales for close to $700. You have to pay to play!

Well this is going off the rail. I made a half joking post about greed and upping profits and it starts going political. If living wages are so important, I guess nobody should complain about higher prices then, right? I live in California and see what is happening here. A living wage is fine, but over 100,000 homeless and addicts living on the streets pretty much over rides living wages, plastic straws and all of the other stuff going on in our state capitol. Our roads suck, our cities are filthy with feces and needles and the rest of the state burns to ashes from fires. Highest taxes in the US for what? I am surprised that every company hasn't left this state. Hopefully GK stays profitable and doesn't end up like SWR, Genz Benz and others. Too many great companies are gone and it is our loss.

Well FWER he went away from those designs for a reason. I was using Schroeder as a comparison. These look like old Schroeder designs to me.

And then my last stab at those BBC cabs is the 2200 watts thing, there is no way your going to cram 2200 watts into that small a cab and at that point I'm out because the specs are screwy.

Paging @JimmyM weren't you telling me your thoughts on super duper HP drivers in a normal sized cab the other day? Care to take a stab at 2200 watts in a standard sized speaker cab? [This invalid link has been removed]
Oh dang, don't get me going with Brad...it'll last for days :D

Was it the part about cramming 2200 watts worth of bass in a single 12" or something or the part about mixing cab sizes. Still a big proponent of playing it safe and not mixing cabs sizes, especially if you don't know if the cabs are made to sound good paired up, but Brad's definitely right that it's not a guaranteed fail by any means.

DWBass,
I posted something similar for my Canadian TB brothers about a month ago. Hard to believe a 1x15, reasonably mass-produced, is worth $1K in our country. They seem to be bumping up against Bergantino-pricing.
WE are in the land of Long and McQuade. Whatever a price is down south we get $500 and up automatically tacked on.A new Mesa Subway 2 x 12 is out of my range , never mind a 2 x 15..

So noticing retail over the past few years I am not surprised that GK or any other company has raised their prices. My guess is that since I haven’t seen GK in GC or any other store regularly they are selling less cabinets then before. So if you sell less yo have to charge more to keep your business going. If this forum is any indication of what people are buying it is spread over many manufactures. I remember a day where you had to choose between GK, Peavey and Ampeg as well as the occasional SWR amp. Now we have more choices that is splitting a customer base that is not growing. So if I am a business owner I have to increase my margin in order to keep paying the rent, payroll etc. The internet is great because we all have choices that we didn’t before, however it allows boutique companies to sell to everyone rather than their local population. And that’s not including what the current tariffs are doing to pricing. It’s hard for me to stomach paying +1000 for a Mexican made bass.

Don't think the tariffs have that much to do with it, nor greed. GK don't have shareholders or a massive corporate parent company to answer to.

I thought I read somewhere recently that GK have upgraded their manufacturing facilities to be able to put out the new Legacy series, so the price hike probably has something to do with that, along with them bringing production back from China to the US.

Lots of people complain about US companies outsourcing manufacturing to China, but then complain about the price of US-made stuff...:meh: :meh:

The upside is we should see a corresponding increase in quality across the range as well. GK's stuff has always had pretty massive bang for the buck, after all. The new Legacy heads look (and, according to the demo videos, sound) amazing and their price is pretty great too, if you factor in their feature set and that they're US-made (which is just as much of a selling point over on this side of the pond, trust me).

Snagged a used one for about $350 off Reverb, and new from SW for about $540, a little after you purchased yours...

... and then this...

IIRC, I've seen that $850 price well before the tariffs were implemented... maybe SW '19 Jan-Mar catalog?

Something is up... pretty big increase, in a short period of time.
That’s the way markets work. They don’t wait for the prices to go up —- it’s market anticipation.

You get who you (California) vote for....

No I am not. These are high end cabs. That simple. I got some I knows.

So let me ask this are the more expensive cabs better?
You're not getting what I'm saying. If folks are in the market for a new cab and can't afford the Neo, they Can still get a very good cab in the CX line. I am NOT saying the cab is any less of a cab than the Neo. Just different and more affordable. They use Ceramic drivers and don't have the bi-amp function.
