Once you reach the practical limitations of an amp, what you experienced is not uncommon.

There may be a better tool for the job if you need more volume.
That was the thing that tripped me out of the early class D offerings. It seemed to me that some of them would cut out when pushed. You had to keep the volume down and the thump came late or just was not present. It seems someone (Andy) has put an end to that kind of thing :)

So it’s fine to run that cab with your combo. Keep the combo on top to make sure you aren’t pushing the 210 to hard. The signal gets spilt between the cabs so the 210 is getting the same power as the 410.

My experience with lower end ampeg stuff is that it’s not super reliable and doesn’t like to be pushed.

I run a few of my amps past 5 all the time with no problem but every design is different. I had an SWR combo as a kid that hated going past 4 and didn’t get louder. Just crappier sounding.

You should never run any amp above 50% volume IMHO.
Have fun with your amp but pay attention when it is cutting out on you. Something is hitting it's limit.

This isn't true either, it depends very much on the intent (and to some degree on the budget) of the designer.

It's not a class D thing, it's purely a design choice as to how the amp handles heavy overdrive.

Many designers make the choice to shut the amp down (in a variety of ways) when the duty cycle or peak current or average current or temperature (or a combination of the above) exceed the safe value as determined by the designer and the design itself.

I don't have those numbers, I just know the symptoms. Watts or voltages are really meaningless as there isn't a W or V knob on the amp. Just use your ears and keep the volume within reason.
 
I tried the same thing and it rocked! Should have no problems the 410 is 8ohms and with the BA it will take an 8ohm cab.
At the time I had a Rumble 500 head with the BA210 and Rumble 410, sounded phenomenal. Had the clarity and punch of the Fender 410 and the midrangy punch of the Ampeg 210
 
As has been said earlier, an 8 ohm 1x15 extension cab is more likely to divide your combo's amplifier output more evenly than the 4x10. The only way to ensure a 50/50 split would be a 2x10 with the same speakers and cab characteristics as your combo.

An 8 ohm 210 or 410 or 115 or 212 or whatever will appear as essentially the same external load to the combo.

That's not in doubt; it's whether certain individual drivers are stressed more than others by receiving more power. The speakers in the 8 ohm 210 cab will experience twice the power than those in the 8 ohm 410 causing them to fart out sooner whilst the 410 cones are still within their comfort zone.

Correct, but using a 115 will not change that. You have to pay attention to what the limiting factors are and depending on the external cab, it will likely be the built-in 10" speakers.
