WTH did this guy do to this Bass???

It looks like they thinned the back of the neck but couldn't be bothered to smooth the transition from the "reliced" part of the neck to the base of the headstock. You'll get a splinter from those woodchips.

I personally find relic’ed basses or guitars (Aside from ones that are specifically intended to replicate an iconic artist’s instrument) pretty lame and right up there with fake patina on a classic car.

This example might be trying simulate a hard working road warrior’s bass, one who only played junkyards during sand storms.

The shipping cost from Italy is ridiculous and while the body looks pretty good the neck/fingerboard is essentially ruined as far as I’m concerned. I wouldn’t buy it.

Oh yeah, scalloped frets and narrow nut allows me to bend every note. I do this to all my basses, usually with a teaspoon. Don't you?

I think he stripped the finish from between the frets and redid those areas to make it look used.

Too full of incongruity for me. The aging looks anything but organic. Might as well just sandblast the whole thing.

That is definitely sandblasted wood on the neck!!! Not scalloped. To look like wear. On purpose, to excess, in the areas that you would supposedly have wear, which is from the strings between the frets, but not real close to them because strings don't bend that sharply. Then "oiled" so the dark appearance. On every fret, the whole width, not realistic grooves from strings, and not just the frets you'd use more frequently.

On the back all those pockmarks are what you get when you lightly sandblast some wood; the real soft stuff gets blown out. At least it was blasted heavier on the back up near the headstock where you'd might actually put wear on it playing on the money frets.

Iffy concept and horrible execution.

I actually think it looks really cool... if you forget about the fact that he destroyed it to get that look. Imagine if a PROPERLY MADE fingerboard finish had that kind of look? It's very cowboys and westerns looking.... if that was some kind of fancy inlay or if there was, intentionally, that lower layer of dark wood finish underneath that looked cool when sanded down to, but without actually damaging teh instrument... so it was DESIGNED to look like that.

I'd love it if I was doing old country or something... again if it wasn't destroyed in the process and the action wasn't atrocious now.

If it sounds good and plays well, it is good.

It would, however, look more consistent if the headstock were finished in the same way as the rest of the neck.

Let me also get this straight. We are to pay more for this than a brand new one because of his botched relic job? Good luck with that. Then again, it is downright reasonable vs his steampunk bass.

Look if you want to do this for yourself, more power to you. If you then think your handiwork is worth a significant markup, delusional.
