Xsonics Club

Getting OT, but very quickly, VERY different. F1... tight, clean, accurate, full range. TH500, fat, chewy, big low end, always some grunt/character/distortion in the mids, organic, relaxed top end.

Thanks, and now back to your regularly scheduled topic !

My impression? You can certainly hear a difference. I'm a lot more pleased with this tweeter. It's more SWR sounding than my Eden XLT. At least the high end of things. I have had a Golliath JR for years and really enjoy the SWR zip. The tweeter upgrade was definitely worth it for me.

And here's the sound samples I made with two mics. An SM57 close to the cab and a cheap condenser mic hanging from the ceiling to capture the treble in the room. FBass into my Eden WT400 set flat with Enhance at 9:30 or so. After I tried my Markbass F500 and it has a more extended upper treble range. The tweeter upgrade was much more obvious with it over the warm WT400. You can also hear the drums and room vibrations because I had the amp set pretty loud....

Hi all.

This is a question for anyone here who has either the 2125-CF or the 2155-CF and had the opportunity to audition both of these cabinets. Just wondering which way you went and what were the influencing factors in your decision?

Disclaimer, I have not tried either of the cabs, but have some experiance with the 3012HO and the 3015 woofers used in the cabs.

The 3012HO is a little tighter in the low end to my ear than the 3015, which is still tighter in the lows than say a Faital 15PR400 but still has some beef to it. Both drivers are muscular in the upper mids, but the HO has fangs where as the 3015 has bite. This is an option you can use/avoid with the faital mid that Nick uses. The 3015 is also more sensitive than the HO and naturally has better power handling.

During my visit to Xsonics, I briefly tried out a 215-CF, a 2155-CF and Nick's personal 2x12 (I don't recall if it has the midrange driver or not).

I'm a Classic Rock finger-style player and used my G&L Tribute L-2500 in the passive mode (with round wound strings). I liked the extra clarity that the mid added. And, to my ears, the 2x15 was a lot bigger sounding than the 2x12.

I didn't play long, as I tagged along with another TBer who spent more time playing (and comparing it to his cabinets that Nick encouraged him to bring), but I liked the 2155-CF best of all. IIRC, it had the upgraded tweeter as well as Nick did the conversion while we were messing with the other cabinets.

For a classic rock/classic country player using TI flats and P5 would I even need the mid driver? I turn the tweeters off of my cabs.

With the mid driver your sound would be a LOT smoother. Those Eminence drivers have some upper mid range aggresiveness that works for some, but not others. The mid driver might give you more presence and dispersion, but it will also be smoother in that region. Depending on your amp and tonal tastes you may tame the 3012HO on your own though, that is a call only you could make.

I would recommend getting the mid as well. You can turn it off but it does give a significantly smoother sound to the upper range and some tunes can really benefit from that. I have the 3015's and they are not as aggressive in that range, and it does sound nice in 2 way. Another big benefit is on tight stages you get a lot more clarity up close with the mid. Just my .02.
EDIT - i also run flats a great deal of the time and never look for a cutting sound, but a punchy powerful low end for the band to sit on top of.

One thing to consider when deciding between the 2125CF, and the 2155CF, is how big a factor cab size is for you. If you want the smallest cab you can get, that still will handle most gigs...the 212's are quite amazing as far as size to output goes. The 215's are big enough to not be considered a "small" cab (even though for a 215, they ARE small), but will definitely out perform the 212 in volume, and low end.

CL is right that having the mid available will allow you to tailor how much grin you want to bare. ;)

i would suggest that the 212 is for those that usually need a good 410 and the 215 for those who like to take 610 - 810 to gigs. Would you all agree with that? 212 for those that prefer a little more grind in the tone.

As far as the mid goes I personally really like it. I have the 2125cf and have giged it a few times already. the mid is really a question of what you want and can afford. I had the 212cf before hand and really was digging it. Nick wanted me to try the 2125cf and give him feedback of what I liked or disliked about it. all I have had are likes, it simply gives a smoother transition IMO. I tend to find I don't need to tweak the EQ on my head that much if any. It also seemed to add a little more horsepower so to speak coming from the 212cf . making it more of an in between cab before needing to jump upward to the 215cf for higher volume levels.
