Yamaha Club Part II

Today I became a multiple Yamaha owner. I bought my BX-1 from Sound Post in Mount Prospect, IL back in 1986. It was $650 new, and I considered a BX-5 at the time but couldn't float the $850 that it cost. I've always been extremely happy with the BX-1; it is truly a sweet bass. I'm using Ernie Ball stainless hybrid slinkies and play with homemade 26 gauge stainless triangular picks shaped like a Fender 355. I also had the push-pull tone control removed after it crapped out, and replaced it with a mini toggle switch for the coil tap feature. I figure I'm never going to turn the tone below full treble anyway, so this cleans up the signal path. I've been looking for another BX-1 as a backup because I would be inconsolable if mine were ever stolen. I was also looking for a BX-5 because I wanted a fiver but wound up buying an abused Ibanez SR305DX last year and giving it a lot of TLC to get it playable again. A couple days ago, there it was on Craigslist, a beautiful BX-5 not too far from me, unbelievably for only $350! I snatched it right up. It'll be my backup for the BX-1 as well as my five string on certain songs. Need to restring with my EB's and do the toggle switch replacement and I'll be all set. Also the guitar player on my band plays bass on another band so he's buying the Ibanez from me. I'll try to post a pic of the twins soon. Good things come to those that wait!

I just purchased a TRBX305 in white (see Draculea's pic above...same one) a few weeks ago and I'm loving the playability. For the retail price, a bass with this much going for it is truly hard to pass up. My first non-crappy 5 string bass was an RBX765A (green) from back in the 90's; loved that bass and kicked myself for selling it.

Here's mine... probably only one like it on the planet. I've had it for going on 2 years. The TBer I got it from owned it for 6 years prior to me taking over. Dozens of basses have come and gone... but this one remains...

I'm something of an Attitude-O-Holic as I've owned 13 of them.
