Yamaha Club Part II

Yeah, nice. That's what they're supposed to look like. Somebody sanded all the black off the neck and HS, thus erasing the ser #. 
Oh well.
I have to replace the battery connector now, and it could use a new output jack. It was being erratic on output, so I first thought it was the jack. I then decided to change the battery anyway. That's when I saw the messed up connector. It's been replaced before, haphazardly. To do it right, I'll have to get a new tip for my soldering pencil.

Yamaha RBX-170

Picked up the bass (cheap) for a musical project. Discovered that I love playing bass. (I'm a guitarist by trade.) I've since upgraded the tuners which were absolute crap, but otherwise I love this instrument.
Found the amp on kijiji and aside from having to move it, it's great. When I bought it, I never imagined that I would need to move it out of my basement, but it turns out that I'm busier as a bassist (gig-wise) than I am as a guitarist.

Last weekend I tried out a TRB1005 at my local music store. Went back today, it was still there and really spent some time with it. Very interesting. It's active of course, but the thing I really liked was how the treble seemed to have more of a passive quality to it. Sure, it could get zingy, but once I found that sweet spot beetween the bass, mid and treble from the onboard EQ as well as the amp settings I found I really liked what I was hearing thru a few differant amps.
I like the overall neck profile and found it comfortable. Not as thin as my SR505 and not quiet as chunky as on my AM STD 5 string Jazz. It's a 35" scale neck and I didn't know that until a few days ao when I read the spec's for it online. Maybe that's why the low B sounded and responded more to my liking.
The body size is nice too. Not as small as my SR and not as big as my Jazz. The weight seemed really good too which is good for my back.
It's listed as used and that threw me because the protective film is still on the back plate for the control cavity. There's also a soft, removable clear plastic piece that shows what function each knob has and there's not a dent or scratch on this bass. I asked one of the salesmen about this and he said it was in layaway for over 90 days and because the guy couldn't pay for it the store has to sell it as used.
It's a Korean model and they're asking $650.00 for it. Is that a fair price? Seems like it is to me.

Yes it is. Seems like you really liked it. If you can afford it get it. I have a TRB 1005F fretless, and love it. I have it strung with tapewounds and am able to get a passable standup bass sound out of it with the EQ. I also have a BB5000 I have had since '89 that is my main bass. Love my Yammies.
Hey there: I am wondering if I can get some insight from Yamaha owners on something. I am thinking about eventually getting a new bass with a P/J setup. I found a $900 Fender I liked but started searching around for cheaper alternatives: the Yamaha RBX170EW, BB424X, and then various Squier/cheaper Fender PJ models seem to be the main contenders. So first question is: how does the 170 compare to the BB series? The 170EW seems like a very pretty bass (although that is based on pictures alone). I would probably be upgrading the pickups in it. Would this be a better value/sound better? And second question is how do they stack up against Squiers/Cheap Fenders tonally? Anyone had both? I haven't had a chance to find and compare these side by side yet, but I aim to

When I got my BB3000AF in 1991 it was the nicest guitar I'd ever owned. It's my only fretless, although now I find myself wanting a 5-string fretless.
For a while, these were selling dirt-cheap. I've been scouring eBay lately, and ANY BB's that pop up are top-dollar. I guess I should've bought additional ones when they were averaging in the $500-700 dollar range around the turn of the millennium...

It's Alive! 
Finally got around to soldering the new battery connector in, and also crazy glued the nut back together. Holding up so far under what little stress there is on the B. Plugged in and played a bit to re-tune. Back to it's normal self again.
Only 1 problem. Had to pack it away until moving day. No time to really push it. Oh well. once we get settled in to the new place, I can pull it out and bang around again.

I can't remember if I've ever received a number, and I don't know if anyone is handing them out anymore, but here are my BB405 and RBX270J (sorry about the phone pic).
They're the only basses I've owned that I feel comfortable taking to any first time gig; they always sound good in a mix. And, the RBX270J is only bass I own that intonates nearly perfectly all along the neck. I used to own an RBX765A, which was a fantastic instrument too. The BB405 is a workhorse.
I'm thinking of getting a TRB1005J or TRB1006J; the new TRBX seems to be replacing a lot of stuff in Australia and you can get some really good deals on a new TRB if you look hard enough. If I get one, I'll do a decent family photo.
EDIT: just discovered I've already posted these. And I found my number. Nevermind!

Hey guys, I have an old Yamaha BB350F (fretless) that I turned into a "budget Pedulla" years ago. I sent the neck to HG Thor (look him up!!) for his bulletproof coating. He took any wear off and applied his magic. This was after being on a waiting list for 8 months. Last time I checked, his wait was 1.5 years... yes, he's that good!
Anyways, the bass hasn't been played much (few hours max) since my endeavors changed while the neck was being coated (life!!). It's wore flats and the coating is still like a mirror. I put US Hipshots and a D-tuner on it also. The coating alone cost me $400.... way more than I paid for the bass, but it was way cheaper than a Pedulla. If I were to sell the bass, I'd lose my investment BIG TIME!! So parting it out is really my only choice.
So, I thought I'd ask you guys if you think anyone would be interested in getting a fretless neck for their 80s BB and would offer a fair price? I could've started a FEELER thread in the classifieds, but I wanted to get the Yamaha club's input first.
