All in all, I think this bass would have easily been $1,100-$1,500 when new, and was steal at $500 used.:bassist:

I just measured spacing at the bridge: it is a full 19mm wide. The MTD 635 must be a bit over 19mm in width.

Congrats, nice looking blue bass. It looks exactly like my old ('95) blue TRB5.

I've got an original TRB6p, born May 18th 1992, unit 003.

I had written Patitucci a long ass letter early on in high school, and he eventually wrote me back (now how cool is that!). After that I knew I had to have the same bass as him (or at least the bass I always saw him playing at the time).

So I came up with 3/4's the money leading up to junior year of high school, and my dad did the rest. Still my favorite bass of all time. I'm about in need of a fret job though...

IMO, piezo's do different things on different basses.

On one of my other basses, having the piezo's on or off has a pretty big affect on the tone. On the TRB though, it's a bit more subtle. There's also different kind of systems, which can affect the way the piezo's reproduce vibration. One of my basses has a single element that picks up vibration for all strings and the bridge. Another one has separate elements that are all housed in one piece. In the case my TRB, each individual saddle has a separate element housing. IMO, it's actually a rather sophisticated design, considering it's close to 20 years old.

For me the TRB piezo system is sort of like a frequency sweeping clarity dial. There's a toggle switch and a pot. I don't actually recall, but the toggle is either on-off or two different frequency modes. I want to say it's modes, because I recall the pot changes the tone regardless of the toggle setting. Obviously, I haven't changed how I've had it set for a while :smug: IMO it changes the tone from clear (and somewhat bright) to duller and perhaps warmer. I want to stay the only times I've really screwed around with it are when trying to get a clearer, but not overly harsh tapping tone. On the TRB, it's kind of like having another treble blend control that doesn't get too honky.

I had not really played out since the MLK service at my church back in January. Today, I was back paying at my church with my TRB5. Once I got the setting straight on my amp, my TRB5 sounded great. Since it is set with a fairly scooped midrange, I bumped the high mids on my amp, and it cut through very effectively, but with alot of bottom. Overall, I was very satisfied with the tone, and it was very comfortable to play sitting and standing. I love the neck and the full 19mm spacing at the bridge too. For anyone looking for a quality mid priced modern sounding bass should look at the older TRB series. They are a great alternative to a Peavey Cirrus with MTD style string spacing.:bassist:

I just picked up a 1994 TRB5 from TB'er TDaigle. I cannot believe the condition of this bass! It is as close to mint as a 16 year old bass can be! What's even cooler is that it is the exact color as the TRB6 that I had during the mid 1990s that I totally loved! Words reeally cannot express how happy I am to get a TRB from that era in such great shape! I feel like a man who has run into a hot old girlfriend many years later and she is still just as hot and she's interested too!:D
