PS - I'm really not that bitter, I just find these things amusing.

I lovingly refer to my Ibanez instruments as Ibby's because I literally feel an attachment to them

Some of those abbreviations annoy me, too. But what really annoys me is, like Lefty was saying, when people don't even try to spell or punctuate properly. If English isn't your first language- fine. I understand that perfectly.

But when I see a guy from Virginia or New York or wherever saying 'u no wut i mean wen i say thins like wen i was sayin BLAHBLAHBLAH'. It makes me mad.

In the world of computer science, dudes are al the time sounding out acronyms, like SQL is commonly referred to as sequal or something. I laughed at first, but then again the pros were using that phrasing, so anything I had to say fell on deaf ears. Plain and sipmle, these guys were a lot better than I was, so its not like they cared.

Sure it might sound weird, but same thing applies here, bassists know what is meant by these abbreviations, if someone does not like it, I don't think anyone already using those terms cares.

And, I would also imagine this goes for a lot of categories in life, if it was ONLY bass guitars I could see a revoultion, but alas, no news here.
