I prefer the Dunlop design..I've always found the Schaller's have a tendency to unscrew themselves..

make the strap harder to roll-up and put away

Well,I would much rather have those very,very minor inconveniences ,as opposed to bent tuners,snapped off headstocks,gouges in the body and such,ANY day of the week.

I've always used Schallers - they've worked perfectly for me for years now. Every bass I own gets them.

Meh, I've seen strap pins strip free from bodies before (and even a strap lock won't stop that!).

Yeah, I need to invest in some better straplock buttons myself. I've used Schallers before and the "pin" part that actually locks in came out and I nearly dropped my strat. Luckily, I caught it before it connected with the ground.

Also had problems with the little screw-on button thing not staying on where it belongs with Schallers. So, in the meantime, I have no straplocks (and this makes me nervous).

So far no problems with the Dunlops. All my guitars and basses have them. One of my band leader's Schallers fell apart during a show once, but I suspect that was more a function of their age and condition than of their design.

The only time I have ever dropped a bass (and it was on stage) was when I had Schaller strap locks. No more straplocks for me.

My guess is that you either failed to use them correctly or to perform routine maintenance......right?

She handled that in true pro fashion,even working the pedals kneeling,impressive.The embarrassing part is the hair-do.Hate strap locks but love the rubber washer idea.

I had Dunlops and Schallers. Hated the metal parts making squeaking sounds, pin sticking out, etc.
Now couple of years on rubber washers and not looking back. Brilliant.

I've seen lots of Schaller's fail. Could be prevented with regular maintenance/tightening. On the other hand, once Dunlop's are on your strap, they're not going anywhere.

I have no idea why schaller has never fixed the design flaw they have in the strap locks.
If they would just do away with that nut and give it a locking clip or some other fool proof method to keep the mechanism together they would have the perfect straplock.
