You Get One Bass. What Is It?

Fender American Standard Jazz Bass. I can make my Jazz sound like a Precision, but not vice versa.

I already have it. It's my Made in the USA 1977-78 (or possibly '82) Fender Jazz - Olympic white with maple neck, white binding on the neck, white pickguard, white pickups, white strat-style knobs, and of course my wide white leather strap. Plays just as easily as my 1965 did and has more sustain. Great sounding and playing bass. You'll have to pry this one from my cold dead hands! **Note - insured by Smith & Wesson (policy #357)**

Seriously. When I started I had one axe, and looked forward to playing to the exclusion of anything else. Now I work, raise kids, work on the house, etc... and since I don't play like I used to I've taken to making music my hobby... I play, just not enough, or what I want to.

So I'm trying to get back to my happy place, and have got the feeling that I'm not the only one...

So, what would you pick?

I'd stick with my heavily modified Squier VM Jazz. The only original part is the body.

When I first started playing I had a P copy (Hondo II!!). It was black, with a black pickguard, and a maple neck/fingerboard. I put rounds on it. I remember those days fondly. It made all the right noises, because I learned how to make them on it. Simple, effective, great sounding, reliable.
If I had to go back to one bass, it would be a Precision.
That said, I'm knocked out by the sheer number of sounds available on the Am. Std. Jaguar.

Wow, this was the exact same as my first bass. It's been through the wringer but I still have it and doing a restoration to it soon. And to top it off. When on tour last year, I found the same amp I had starting out and picked that up as well. So now I have the exact rig I had when I started playing, and for my first gigs I played..

A well built P/J 5-String with flats. Don't care what brand. 35" slim neck, low to the fretboard 17mm string spacing, beefy sounding pickups, extra heavy bridge of some kind. Done. Heck, I don't even care what color it is.

I'm really enjoying my G&L Tribute L-2000 so I'd have to say I'd go with this USA-made model. Great color and matching headstock takes it up a notch.

I would choose an Industrial Radio Pro V midi Bass.. one of which I happen to own already, haha. Between that, and Trilian, what more could anyone want from a bass?

If forced into it, American J-bass V, ash body-- burst or natural, TI Flats, and nothing but free time to groove.
