You Get One Bass. What Is It?

Currently, I own only a p, but if I had to choose one, I'd say a jazz.

I played a P bass for a few dozen years without even considering the purchase of another bass. It's been maybe 2 years since I bought a Jazz bass and I'm really loving it.
It would be my American Standard Jazz bass. It's versatile. It can't sound like a P, but I can get a nice, rich, fat tone out of it.

That makes sense to me... all of the good sound, quality, and feel you need and still cheap enough to take anywhere you want. Anyone hating on that just doesn't know what's really good with them...

Seriously. When I started I had one axe, and looked forward to playing to the exclusion of anything else. Now I work, raise kids, work on the house, etc... and since I don't play like I used to I've taken to making music my hobby... I play, just not enough, or what I want to.

So I'm trying to get back to my happy place, and have got the feeling that I'm not the only one...

So, what would you pick?

A MIA P bass and a MIA elite J bass.

My modded MIJ Marcus Miller jazz. Others come and go and are sometimes toted as backups, but this is the only one that goes to 100% of the gigs.

Inhuman I didn't mention my MIJ MM jazz bass as it would have been too many basses fir the OP ... however even if I own other MIA Fenders I consider this guy the best bass I have as the neck has simply got the right shape and size for me ... however it's since quite a while that I'm thinking to upgrade the electronics ... I upgraded the pickups to Fender SCNs but I'd like to further upgrade them to Fender Super 51 which I own but didn't install them yet ...what about the preamp ? Mike Pope 2 bands? East M retro? Aguilar 2 bands? Bartolini ? (Bartolini only cones with a box full of wires which make me skeptical about my actual capability if installing it..).
I've looked for somebody to ask this question to since a long time, your reply would super appreciated!

My '89 G&L L-2000. It is my one and only bass, after years of going through basses. It can sound explosive, sweet or sharp all at the flick of a switch. This is my lifer. Took me a while to realise it, but it is.
