But if I had to pick ANY bass in the world to own and own no other? Fodera Emperor 5 deluxe.

The Carl Pedigo build in my avatar. Excellent ergonomics, and a broad range of tones via a John East preamp with variable mids and a pair of Duncan NYC soapbars, wired so I can independently toggle parallel or either coil, singly, on each. 22 frets, light ash body, rosewood board. Given my long-standing love for ebony boards I'm surprised to be in this place, but have to confess the rosewood board lets me get old-school purr, as compared with ebony's ping, and therefore makes this axe somewhat more of a swiss army knife.

I bought a Line 6 Variax 5 string almost 10 years ago. That's MY bass. It was busted up in a car accident, and it took me many months to put it back together. It now has a pretty matt, black/gray finish with some silver sparkle, and a black pickguard. I have several 5's that would work if need be, and parts for others, but the Line 6 is my favorite bass over the last 45 years of playing.
