I've done this as well, reduced my gear to point where I am now an occasional hobbyist. One bass, small light amp, single cab.

My Spector is my one bass. NS5CR. Nice thin neck thru, passive Delano's, Delano Sonus pre w/ active passive switch. It covers everything I can play.

Yup. A Guild with Darkstar DS-1 or Hagstrom Bisonic is simply an unbelievably versatile instrument. Even with one pickup.
No doubt in my mind this is what inspired the Casady bass.

Seriously. When I started I had one axe, and looked forward to playing to the exclusion of anything else. Now I work, raise kids, work on the house, etc... and since I don't play like I used to I've taken to making music my hobby... I play, just not enough, or what I want to.

So I'm trying to get back to my happy place, and have got the feeling that I'm not the only one...

So, what would you pick?

Spector Forte 5. If budget be a limiting factor, any 5 string neck thru bass w/ a full contact bridge, active electronics and slim neck; such as a Schecter, Ibanez, or LTD.
