You Get One Bass. What Is It?

Seriously. When I started I had one axe, and looked forward to playing to the exclusion of anything else. Now I work, raise kids, work on the house, etc... and since I don't play like I used to I've taken to making music my hobby... I play, just not enough, or what I want to.

So I'm trying to get back to my happy place, and have got the feeling that I'm not the only one...

So, what would you pick?

It would be a fiver. And I would make sure that it was the most comfortable to me. It would be active, and I would change the pickups and preamp to meet my sonic goals. Sorry the answer is a bit different.

I have it: my Marleaux Contra five-string. Two Delano quad coil pickups, each or both of which can be run single coil, series, parallel, active or passive. Pretty much covers any possible tone I would need. Plays like a dream.

I've owned about 12 basses since getting my first Stingray 5HH and, so far, no other bass I've owned has been able to unseat an SR5HH from my #1 spot. My old Warwick FNA Jazzman 5 came very close and my newest bass, a G&L L-2500 is giving it some serious competition. But, if I had to pick right now, I wouldn't hesitate to pick my Stingray 5HH as my one and only bass.

I've got a Blacktop Jazz, and it's pretty much just about ideal. The only thing I would change were to move the neck pickup back to P position in lieu of it's current J position, but I don't know how much of a real word difference that makes versus being told repeatedly by TB Hivemind that it's "not the sweet spot."
