You know it is summer when...

I hate summer almost beyond my ability to convey.

It's 103 at the moment, but the humidity is normal, and there'll be a break when the sun goes down and I get an offshore breeze.

I remember reading the weather updates on my radio programs in NYC and it'd be 99/95% at night. That was appalling. Then it'd rain and you couldn't breathe.

South's lots of fun, too. :rollno:

This explains why I lived in San Francisco for fifteen years. Every year, you'd put on a parka to go watch 7/4 fireworks. No, I'm not kidding.

When the weatherman's forcast for the next seven days is the same as the last seven, and the seven before - for about 16 weeks. 98-100 degrees, 10% chance of rain, low temps overnight 78-80 degrees, drought conditions, the lawn suffering even WITH a sprinkler system - and the sound of cicadas in JUNE!

I hate it immensely. I must be really hot blooded because I'm just always miserable in the summer.

A river of sweat runs down my back after walking a block.

Riding in my car (leather seats) with the AC at full blast and on 60 F and still my back is completely soaked.

Not being able to wear clothes I like (scarves, suit jackets, blazers, coats ect) because I would die otherwise.

I'd be happy if summer consisted of it maybe getting to 70 at the highest.

Now don't get me wrong, 80/90 F is awesome when you are at an island that gets constant lovely costal breezes and has an ocean to swim in. Any other time its misery.

I can't wait for September.

What I've never been able to understand is this:

WHY do halfwitted organizers think that July and August are THE great times for outdoor concerts and festivals and "free music in the park" events? :rollno:

It's insane. Hundred degrees in the blazing sun, amps overheating, everyone in a death race with sunburn, dehydration and sunstroke.

Some fun.

When the number of bikes on the two bike cars of the local commuter train quqdruples overnight, only to be cut in half of normal the next day if the temps drop below 10-degrees from previous day, or if there is some chance of rain.

The transition into summer is a little more fickle and subtle here, but the bikes on the trains is a pretty good indicator....
