You know you're a bass player if...

Your wife (who doesn't play and instrument) can tell you what kind of bass is being played whenever she sees a band play on TV...
Yeah it's true...

And....

If she corrects you when you tell her the price you paid for a piece of gear......

And....

If you give her the wrong price for something you sold.....

:o)

1) After years of playing gigs, you finally learn that no matter how much room onstage you leave for a drummer's gear, he'll use all of it (and often want more).
2) Your callouses are so thick, you can impress people by putting out candles by pinching them, without first licking your fingers. (A fun party trick.)

You know when youre a bass player when you go fishing, and a hook sinks into your finger it doesnt get past the callous. When your friends look at you and ask if your alright, to see the look on their faces when you tell them it didnt even make it past your callous is priceless

You know you're a bass player when....

....After everyone has set up there instruments at church and are standing around talking before service starts, you sneak around to turn down the keyboard's volume (Lord forgive me)

.....Some young punk does a solo at the guitar center on a guitar and you get annoyed and replay the exact same solo back at him ten times louder on the bass.

.....You get mad frequently in the guitar center because they are so biased towards guitars and treat bass as a step child.

.....you and your drummer have a whole slew of private jokes between you two about every other member of the band.

......you love the way tim commerford keeps the groove when ever tom morello does his battle star galactica solos knowing that if tim was to stop playing in the middle of the solo, tom would fall flat on his face! (I'm a big RATM/Audioslave fan)

......If you play along to CD's you have to have the bass on the CD's completely off so that the only bass that can be heard is from your bass playing!

.......If you think Jame's brown's bassist is one bad.....shut yo mouth!

. . . You find yourself playing Chromatic Fantasy to the air as you walk through the hallways of your school.

. . . The only thing you can think about in class is playing bass.

. . . You get a job for the sole purpose of buying a fretless bass.

. . . You write your college application essay on Jaco.

. . . You find that penetrating ring of harmonics one of the most soothing sounds on earth.

. . . You look at epoxy as a bass repair tool rather than boat repair.

. . . You find yourself humming the bassline to 'Take Five' after jazz band, because 5/4 is an extremely catchy time signature.

. . . You're the only one who can name the time signature of a song your drummer uncle plays for you.

. . . You bring your bass to the lunch table.

All of the preceding are traits of mine, I just had to put some of them out there (and if I've repeated anybody, I'm sorry, I only got through 11 pages).

you know your a bassist when you bring a giant rubber band to work to practice your plucking hand tech. my manager hate me for it this rubber band has flown across the front lanes on target a few times.

also you know your a bassist when the band expects you to know all the answers about gear, "you know we're lookin for new monitors how about these," "well whats the bass reasponse like :smug: "

my personal fav on the graphic EQ on a carvin x100 guitar amp "is the bass side the low numbers or the high ones" I was ready to kill myself.

You know your a bassist if:

-you play bass

-you have a cd full of just songs u love the bass lines to (guilty 3 times :D )

-you walk around and your index and middle finger just move subcoinciously.

-You show EVERYONE the new bassline you wrote/learnt regardless of whether they care.

-you instinctavely beat the living snot out of anyone who disses you or your bass or bass in general.

-you either have really long hair, or very short hair.

-Your able to stack 9 ciggarette packets on tom of each other and pick them up between ur minndle finger and thumb.

I actually knifed a "Blink-182 is greatest artists evar" guitarist in the leg because he said bass was simple and he could play...:ninja: :hiding:

All of the others are true for me.

Another: When you buy a $20+ cd for one killer bassline.
