You know you're a bass player if...

You just farted out your stereo's subwoofer listening to Ray Brown

You knew who Randy Jackson was because he plays bass, not because of some foolish TV show - and you know he endorses Lull Basses

Your cat (or dog etc.) sleeps through E-string thumps and feedback

You KNOW you're a bass player when your husband (or wife) wakes you up in the middle of the night to inform you that you were THUMPING in your sleep and your first cognizant thought is that you really were playing something in your dream. This has actually happened to me on at least three occasions.

And (it gets better!) people are actually coming over to my house to "see the new baby", and it's a Warwick!

You know you're a Bass Player when...
-You're either the "best" nieghbor ever ('cause you will *never* complain about the noise) or you're the "worst" nieghbor ever ('cause your co-habitants do complain about the noise)
-being pumped through a 400,000 watt sound system is better than sex for you
-A train rolls by and you get a hard-on from the low frequency rumble
-a punk-arse assumes that playing on four strings is easier than playing a six-stringed guitar...and then you offer him your electric upright to end the debate.
-when Aston "Family Man" Barret is more of a hero to you than Superman
-you find yourself trying to "smooth out" differences between bandmates. (Why are the bass players always stuck in that Dr. Phil role in every band?)
-you know how to harmonize from the bottom up
-You're okay with dressing like Bootsy
-you don't need to retune your axe (or have 8 different ones for each tuning) to extend your range (6-string!)
-You try to tune your B string to match the frequency of that last earthquake
-you've been arrested/sent to detox less than the other guys in your band

...one of those thump-mobiles pulls either up to you, or behind you, or in front of you at a red light and while people in your car are complaining and rolling up the windows, you're thinking - "Naw, that won't work; bass freq's penetrate, go in all directions. Hmm, I wonder what my bass guitar would sound through that system...."

sounds like crap, can we say no highs... it really doesnt work

Oh dang most of this is true for me. Its scary to think it's actaully true heh.

you know your a bass player when:

-you find yourself humming to the bass line in songs instead of the melody. (and get laughed at)

-the bass knob to your car sterio is turned all the way up

-the eq setting on your ipod is set to "bass booster"

-you listen to a song and immediately try to figure out the bass line on your bass

-you pay more attention to your bass than your cat (the cats treated well though)

Yep, going through 400,000 watts is better than any sexual fantasy I can think of. Infact, it IS a sexual fantasy. :bassist:

I'm occasionally smoothing out band issues too... I'm kind of a mediator and 'something-I-can't-think-of-the-word-for'. That's probably because I'm the oldest.

I'm guilty of other mentioned things too, such as:
-CD player is set to Bass Boost. Infact, all of my HIFI equipment is. Even my computers sound card is set for maximum bass output. I love my soundcard. :)
-Bought specific headphones because they produced the most bass out of what was there/ I could afford.
-My ears natrually amplify any bassline I hear in a song, to the point where I'm ignoring the vocals and guitar. Even in guitar solos I'm focused dead on the bass.
-I immediately try to learn the bassline for songs I like.
-When some souped up car with subwoofers rolls by, I imagine what it would sound like if REAL music was played through it, or better yet, a bass.

Right now I'm trying to hook up a 30W subwoofer I found to my computer and/or stereo system, even though it's far more powerful than the computer speakers. :)

i'm glad i'm not the only one who's done that :D

*laughs* Made me very grateful for my Body Glove case--it's a hard/soft case hybrid, the bass was unharmed in every instance, just my ego and my neck/back got hurt. :smug:

I'm not even that tall. I can only imagine what it would be like for someone, say, 6 foot...almost took out a light at one of the Loop stops as well!!!

A vote for higher ceilings/doorways on the CTA...:help:

I wish I would have had one of those, I put a ding on the back of the neck one time :bawl:

I'm 5'11 and I only really have problems with trains and low ceilings. I could probably name each gouge in my bedroom by model and manufacturer.

haha naw no need for a vote, it's making me practice my limbo skills. i almost wish it would get shorter each time i go through it :hyper:
