Don't get me wrong, I like playing my instrument and talking to other bassists and stuff; but I don't think I'd be able to keep myself from breaking fingers if some dork ever did that to me in public.

:)

....You generally notice youre hitting things, such as a table edge, with your thumb.

I don't know about that... i was doing that before i became bass... acctually before i felt inlove with bass... that was one of my things todo when i listen to music... tab my fingers and thumb...
Then... maybe thats why i choose and love playing bass now... just didnt relise it before ;)

A) Not only did you laugh when Jack Black gave the cello player the bass, but you were pissed that he told her to just play a G, and then gave every instrument a solo except the bass.
Oh ya... i cant believe she didnt get anything in the end... i was sooo waiting for her to bust out:(

- Upon hearing someone gripe about how the "economy/war on terror" has made gas prices insane you snap at them and yell "THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAN GAS!!!! WHAT ABOUT THE OUTRAGEOUS PRICE OF STRINGS???!?!?!" and then the usual nervous look and swift walking away............

- you've humiliated someone in public by merely laughing at their recent "Bass is easy, you only play one note at a time" comment

- When you blow your old amp to usher in a newly purchased one, you blow it to Primus' DMV

- After holding an Electric Guitar you hand it to someone and treat it as though it were a new born (Cradle it! It's too small to keep it's neck from breaking!)

- You imagine how well electric guitar strings would work for a mafia hit

- You've given movie character's basses that fit their persona

- You bought a brand new polyphonic cell phone and blew it out because you uploaded a little riff of your own to it.

- Upon hearing that someone plays bass you point at them and hold up your hands in a 'Air-Slap-Bass' gesture to make sure they're apart of the LowEndInatti (illuminatti - har har)

- When people ask you what the hell you are doing you zone in and realize you've been slapping your knee with your thumb for the past 30 minutes... and then go right back to doing it

- After a monologue of why and how much you love the bass your girlfriend asks you which you would choose if you had to lose one forever --you tell her... and lost her forever--

- You've missed 4+ meals because of a song that you can't seem to get down

- When people talk about fragrances (leather) you start talking about rosewood and nickle

- You muse with the guitarcenter clerk about how much cooler a Bass center would be

- Immediately in all seriousness the clerk says he'd quit his current position (with bonuses) and go work there (for less)

- You point out to people how goofy they look because they seriously 'broke' (messed up) their guitars in an attempt to be spontaneous, original and 'cool' (just face it, a body missing a huge chunk--4 inches--, big spikey things all over, and blinking LEDs don't make your songs cooler)

- You feel like a highschool algebra teacher because of how you explain stupid gimmicks (strings alternate between bass and electric) directly correlates to stupid band and stupid music

- (for C15C0 PHR33K's) To exaggerate the importance/complication of the bass to your non-computer literate and non-music friends you say "It's like subnetting a CIDR network with 3 IP addresses, each address is the reserved address range for that class (A - 10, b - 172, C - 192), port translation and doing it all in Binary"

(okay so that isn't exaggerating, bass pwnz all)

P.S. I've met some idiots in my time, but nobody as dumb as the guy who had the alternating strings idea...

Best First Post...

Ever!

Welcome to talkbass lazykat :) You got off to a good start ;)

- wake up in your bed with dry lips, aching bones, a massive headache, your bass clutched in your arms and you can't remember what you have been doing for the two days.

- people comment on the wanking muscle of your arm and you repeatedly tell them to no avail that you play slap bass.

- you pause video's every time you can see the bassist in the shaddowy depths of the stage, averaging three times most vids.

- you drink beer because you like the taste and not only because it offers a cheap and easy night of drunkeness.

- never get any attention from groupies...

.

This ISNT meant to be funny... i am serious...

I would love to wind up with the first one and the rest are me all over :D :bassist: :D

...you've played "Freebird" publicly 1,386 times. Points aren't awarded until 1.3 million renditions.

...you can name all the places in a song where your favorite bassist plays a hammered G followed by a triplet but you can't remember if the song has words.

...the large size of your amp/speakers has proven useful as another appliance like a table, ladder, or bookcase.

...you grasp any long, slim object and mentally compare it to a bass neck.

...you not only don't get help with your bigger-than-normal gear, you are the first to get it set up and then help with the drums.

...you firmly subscribe to the notion that, as the bassplayer, you are a better musician than the rest of the members of the band.

...when the guitarist breaks more strings in the first 2 sets than you have in the last 13 years.

...you've spent hours trying to figure out what you could do with used strings. Surely, all that metal in one place has another use.

...when you take pride in knowing a guitarist will never get to appreciate the feel of a 35" scale instrument.

I use my cab to put my mobile /cell phone on it. I usually have it on in the sounds off / vibration on mode, and therefore I would not hear it unless I put it on my cab - but this way I can hear it from a long distance ;) :D

- when you even endure to lsten to the kinds of music you usually despise to see who the player is, what gear he/she has, and what is the melody being played (I think this applies for many of us here, not just me... ;) )

- when on a concert, you stand the closest to the bassist, and look most of the time at what he/she plays...

- you know a song by the bassline, but you dont remember the title or any part of the song  :D (happens to me...)

..at a hot date, you find yourself trying to explain the differences in bass pickups to the girl.

..your image of a sexy picture is John Pattitucci or Anthony Jackson playing their respective six-string basses.

..you get a uncontrollable surge of funky energy from hearing syncopated hihat work on the radio and have to start grooving to yourself.

You realize that when you work out, the way that you count 20 reps is; 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, 2 - 2 - 3 - 4, 3 - 2 - 3 - 4, 4 - 2 - 3 - 4, 5 - 2 - 3 - 4
You know that you're really in deep when you don't even call it 20 reps anymore - it's five bars of 4/4.
And you do your workout in 9/8 and 11/8 for added practice. :hyper:

dont know if it counts but few times on long drive i tapped my shifter out of gear... and when it went to nutural car went insane becuase i was going near 100 and my bas was very close to floor:P i had to stop and acctually figure out how it happened:/

It was queen on the tapedeck:]
