You know you're a bass player if...

...You tell people you broke your G string and can keep a straight face.
...You got your Muff from a friend and there are no hard feelings.
...You broke your nut and are greatful for the opportunity to try a different material...
...You can't remember your girlfriends name but you can draw the Alembic logo without looking...
...You can't remember anyone else's name, but you remember every piece of gear they own, and know exactly what it's strung with.
...You see your favorite NYC Luthier's shipping guy at a concert and scream 'Hey Nino!'

Never once has your girlfriend/wife or any female neighbors asked you to turn it down.

True! The last girl I dated used my bass as a vibrator reference every day..

- You refuse to date any girl who has a compact car due to small trunk space

- Your first date consisted of "I bet that one dude is using that new Spector Legend."

- Your game boy is attached to a 15 inch sub

Mine suck but are too true.

- You'll dig a song that has a killer bassline, even though it's real lame otherwise.

- You'll dig a song that has a killer bass tone, even though it's also real lame otherwise.

- You have a favorite Madonna song, for the sole reason that Nathan East played on it.

- You start to get interested in a certain band just cos you found out the bassist plays your favorite kind of bass.

- The center note in a musical staff is a "D" and you refuse to see it any other way.

When your family take you on a round the world, once in a lifetime holiday, and as soon as you get there (New York, Vancouver, Singapore, Sydney) you immediately separate yourself from the rest of your family who are going 'sight-seeing' to hunt out music shops.

:)

lol some of these are very funny and very true, I'll try and some of my own: (don't expect much)

You know your a bass player when.......

..relatives say, "When are you going to start playing the real guitar?"

..people look at you in shock and awe when you tell them that Paul McCartney was/is a bassist

..when you play the I, IV, V chords to hear a guitarist say, "Whoa man, they sound so good, I think you invented something musical man!!!"

..when in the company of females you try hard to get the fact that you work with your fingers a lot into conversation ;)

..when proclaiming you are going to start learning the bass, only to hear, "Why?" from pretty much everyone

Can;t think of anymore, I'm not a naturally funny person :hiding:

You know you're a bass player if...
- Upon hearing someone gripe about how the "economy/war on terror" has made gas prices insane you snap at them and yell "THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAN GAS!!!! WHAT ABOUT THE OUTRAGEOUS PRICE OF STRINGS???!?!?!" and then the usual nervous look and swift walking away............

- you've humiliated someone in public by merely laughing at their recent "Bass is easy, you only play one note at a time" comment

- When you blow your old amp to usher in a newly purchased one, you blow it to Primus' DMV

- After holding an Electric Guitar you hand it to someone and treat it as though it were a new born (Cradle it! It's too small to keep it's neck from breaking!)

- You imagine how well electric guitar strings would work for a mafia hit

- You've given movie character's basses that fit their persona

- You bought a brand new polyphonic cell phone and blew it out because you uploaded a little riff of your own to it.

- Upon hearing that someone plays bass you point at them and hold up your hands in a 'Air-Slap-Bass' gesture to make sure they're apart of the LowEndInatti (illuminatti - har har)

- When people ask you what the hell you are doing you zone in and realize you've been slapping your knee with your thumb for the past 30 minutes... and then go right back to doing it

- After a monologue of why and how much you love the bass your girlfriend asks you which you would choose if you had to lose one forever --you tell her... and lost her forever--

- You've missed 4+ meals because of a song that you can't seem to get down

- When people talk about fragrances (leather) you start talking about rosewood and nickle

- You muse with the guitarcenter clerk about how much cooler a Bass center would be

- Immediately in all seriousness the clerk says he'd quit his current position (with bonuses) and go work there (for less)

- You point out to people how goofy they look because they seriously 'broke' (messed up) their guitars in an attempt to be spontaneous, original and 'cool' (just face it, a body missing a huge chunk--4 inches--, big spikey things all over, and blinking LEDs don't make your songs cooler)

- You feel like a highschool algebra teacher because of how you explain stupid gimmicks (strings alternate between bass and electric) directly correlates to stupid band and stupid music

- (for C15C0 PHR33K's) To exaggerate the importance/complication of the bass to your non-computer literate and non-music friends you say "It's like subnetting a CIDR network with 3 IP addresses, each address is the reserved address range for that class (A - 10, b - 172, C - 192), port translation and doing it all in Binary"

(okay so that isn't exaggerating, bass pwnz all)

P.S. I've met some idiots in my time, but nobody as dumb as the guy who had the alternating strings idea...
