When your band is 30 seconds in to the first song and the club owner comes over and tells you to stop playing!

You are not playing too loud on a 2x10 combo if there is a stage involved. Let's stop mixing up "too hard" with "TOO LOUD!" I have only broken a string practicing, but am almost always TOO LOUD!
EDIT: missed the "too hard" part of the OP. My bad! Break those strings. Saw a Type O Negative show and Peter Steel grabbed his strings and ripped em out of the bridge after the end of the last song. ***!
When your wireless reciever vibrates off your head... true story after our set i was looking around for where my wireless reciever went and it was behind my cab...
Also when your guitarist has his 100 watt line 6 amp cranked and you have your amp up to 4 but cant hear guitar at all ha another true story.

When the patrons that were dancing and buying drinks before you took the stage leave, you are playing too loud.
I've seen that one. The bass player was drowning out the drummer (and a loud one at that) and the vocals were essentially inaudible (the big clue). The response: the guitar player announced, "OK everyone now we are going to have some fun so we'll turn up the volume" and he cranked his amp. That was when I left.
When your spare bass vibrates off it's stand and falls over on stage. Happened to me last Friday.

Because in a band situation I'd rather be the drummer and I'd be the one sitting at the back having to listen to all that racket and not being able to hear MYSELF play!
I'd have authority in this situation because drummers are easily the most important members of the band.
When you go to step outside for a smoke and end up face diving because your equilibrium is thrown off.
When you break DR High Beams Heavy gauge B and E strings at a rate of at least once a month. I used to do this frequently.
