FWIW, one of my co-workers plays guitar in a decently successful local band; he gigs all over the Mid-Atlantic, and I've been learning some things from him about the actual business of music. We talk music all the time at work, especially about pedals. So please don't think the "guitard" label applies to all guitarists...far from it.

Dude I have Autism in my family, and I Still thank you to not speak for me. I'm not offended, I'm sick of self appointed champions of the oppressed.. they seem to fulfill some "hole" in their lives with selective righteous indignation.

I sense the butthurt has shifted. Some of those that were called out for using an offensive term are now feeling the burn of guilt. Like kids who get caught red-handed doing something they know is wrong and then defensively attempt to justify or wriggle out of it nonetheless.

Pejorative language will continue to exist, and will morph into other words.
the sentiment that people carry with the use of this word, or that word will remain unchanged by the string of characters, or gutteral sounds formed by their mouths.
Using (or not using) a particular word, only "Veils" it from the reader.

If the term were changed to "Guitar Challenged" would the meaning behind it change?

If i say "Shut the Front Door" (as a replacement phrase) Get the Flock out, Cheese and Biscuits, Holy Moly, Judas Priest, does it hide the meaning from anyone beyond the most ill-informed and innocent?

S*** for one, is a word, a word acceptable in many places, Poopie, Doody, Feces, Fecal, Toilet Fish, Stink Log....
whatever word is used the meaning and intended sentiment remains unchanged.

Censorship applied in this manner, simply "veils" the darkside and allows the blissfully ignorant to continue to be so.

Descriptive terms, will often offend someone because they will identify it as instead of descriptive, as Segregational.

Gay (used to mean HAPPY) it was co-opted by a community, became a slur, and then was not to be used.
Cracker (a term that referred to the sound of the bullwhip used by cowboys)
and thousands of other examples-- words come words go, the sentiment of the user does not.....

instead of attacking silly strings of letters, why not spend efforts time money and more strings of letters trying to change the PUBLIC PERCEPTION of people at large, work on the underlying emotions rather than the words.

Calling My Brother an Autistic Child, with snide or dismissive intent, is no different, than calling him "Captain Bike Helmet"

Even describing someone "politically correct" is pejorative:
think about it........
since political agendas, and public opinion are changed over months and years, PC to me really is read as "Popular Cause" "Politically Corrosive" "Pu*** Continues" "Puerile Content"
"Pandering Curmudgeon" "Passively Committed"

in the south a common dismissive term is "Bless his/her Little Heart" sounds completely pleasant does it not? it is even spoken without any malicious tones..... it is an "inside reference" meaning the polar opposite


put your efforts where they can actually make a difference, the world is and always will be an ugly ugly place...
until people change their way of thinking, and modifying language is the least effective way to accomplish this.

It would be a good band name, if it didn't obviously refer to "challenged" people, so could we please now stop referring to them as "Bike Helmets" and refer to them a "removable molded polystyrene colorful Cranium protection units" please ?
it's also denigrating to those who have served in out Military, so we shant use the term "captain" as it is easily assumed that they members of this proposed band would not be ranked military, public service, airship, or ocean going vessel officers. so that term, should be changed to something less offensive, as it diminishes the solemnity of the officer's rank.

Perhaps Spear Head? no, cant use that because, perhaps tribal descendants may find that an offensive reference... well let me get back to you...

So lets be clear here, it's ENTIRELY OK WITH YOU to be offensive and vulgar IF YOU determine that it's funny. Only you. If someone else finds something funny, and you don't its simply offensive. and you need to "stand up" and tell them how WRONG and BAD they are .....
