There were quite many good points.
Especially, the thing that those rare music freaks who really analyze the band sound spectrum (while hopefully still enjoying the music itself) are annoying since (even if they don't say it to you) you know that they've spotted your mistakes. But, on the other hand, you can be sure that once you play that pedal point or accompany the vocal melody with a countermelody, they'll notice and hopefully like it
But I've experienced a couple of times that regular listeners have sometimes paid attention to the bass and said they liked it. And I don't mean I've been playing long solos or stuff that highlight my part in the band, they just liked the groove. That's very nice to hear.
When it comes to the girls, I've experienced that you really can get a girls attention with bass. At least some of the musical ones which are the best anyway

That's a good reason. I'm a drummer as well as a bassist, so don't take my opinion on this post too seriously. I will say that peoples reactions when I tell them that I play bass are very different than when I tell them that I'm a drummer.
As a bassist I'm seen more as a serious musician. As a drummer, they tend to hide their daughters, wives, sisters and mothers from me...

You didn't. The article was well written, funny, and may have had a bit too much of the "ring of truth" for some people's sensibilities.
Personally, I think peremptory labeling of "Trolls" is a bit overdone here, although I understand the cynicism that prompts it.
You just gotta get used to people disagreeing with you at times, here as much as in real life. Everyone has a different viewpoint; and some express their opinions more strongly than others. Don't let 'em chase you out.

I started on bass becasue guitarists in my liitle town were a dime a dozen, but there was only ONE bass player. Everyone always needed him to come play with their band. He could pick and choose whatever crew he wanted to play with.
I liked the option of being the one in demand, and not trying do jockey for a bass player. So I started playing bass instead of anything else. Then there were two bass players in town and we could both still choose who we wanted to play with and when we wanted to play.

I lived in a small town here in Ph with a somewhat alive local music scene and many aspiring guitarists (including me at one time in my life). I used to play rhythm guitar but 2 days before our very first gig, my band's bassist left the band. After learning that our bassist quits, our lead guitarist told me "why don't you try learning the bass? If you could play decently those songs on our list I would gladly lend you my surfboard for 1 week." Being a noob surf addict, I gladly accepts his suggestion and man I really enjoy playing the bass guitar (not to mention 1 also abused the surfboard for 1 week 
). As of now, I haven't played any other instrument aside from bass guitar.

I thought the article was right on. Not a troll at all.

I feel like I'm the one making the girls' ovaries quiver, I just don't get credit for it. That's cool... I know who REALLY gets them dancing.
