Your best 5 pedals.

That's interesting to hear...I may have to try one now!

My best:
EHX Qballs
Multivox Big Jam Spit Wah
Boss EQ-20
DOD FX70C Corrosion
Behringer PB100 Preamp/Booster (not kidding; it does precisely what it's supposed to do, and does it very well)
Time for me to give an update, too:

EHX Qballs
Behringer PB100
EHX Hot Tubes Nano
Source Audio Tri-Mod Wah
Korg AX3B

I’m revising mine...

FEA DE-CL: I use it as a subtle tone enhancer, and I love the Warmth knob used conservatively around 10:00 or 11:00

Damnation MBD-1: Widely praised here and worthy of the praise. It can cover a lot of ground dirt wise, but I use it as a light overdrive / girth injection (similar to a hot beef... never mind)

Dunwich Olde Dirty Bass: After all the overdrives I have cycled through this is king for me. I use it @18V and with the MBD-1 to ramp up to a heavier overdrive sound. Love it’s clanky grind, closest thing I’ve found to get in the range of Ed’s (Thrice) tone, but still not there.

Are these used on your recordings (I noticed a Soundcloud link in your sig)?

I have been trying to find a sound very similar to what you described but the range of overdrives and distortions is seemingly infinite. I have been using a Darkglass AO:U however feel it just doesn't quite get there.

The first track, DB Cooper, yes @Plastalmonus

The rest of the tracks probably do use the MBD and a few the ODB. I haven’t documented all that real well over time.

Yeah man that's a really good sound. Love the song as well. Is that a Warwick you're playing by any chance?

EDIT:

Actually on further listening I'm going with a Jazz Bass..?

For ne it completely depends on musical context but:
I like...in no particular order:
-the four eye fuzz for it's versatility and touch responsiveness...even by touch can I change texture.
-Barbershop for it's subtle usefulness
-original discumbobulator for being my favorite envelope filter.
-Shallow water - magic...
-A/DA pbf flanger, for being the best flanger I have and know.
honorary mention:
-Accountant---for giving me a breakup voice I have not heard anywhere else. I find it gets any bass into stingray-territory.

...and on it goes...
