Your best 5 pedals.

Malekko B:assmaster
Malekko Diabolik
Ampeg SCR-DI
MXR Bass Octave Deluxe
MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe

Honourable mention to the 3Leaf Octabvre

Interesting that 2 of the pedals on my list I haven't plugged in since March or April. I bought an Ampeg amp so my SCR-DI has been collecting dust and my 3Leaf has replaced the MXR as my favourite octave pedal.

Current "Best" list?

MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe
SGFX Surf Rider III
Malekko Diabolik (B:assmaster still gets used a lot, but the Diabolik is smaller)
Way Huge Pork Loin
3 Leaf Octabvre

This should be reasonably easy for me since my board only has 7 pedals on it, two of which I consider utility pedals. So...
  • Origin Effects Cali76 TX
  • 3Leaf Octabvre v2 (the big box - I like the "Sub" switch)
  • Strymon Mobius
  • Pike Vulcan
  • Hudson Broadcast (currently running a single gain, but have a dual foot switch on order that should be here any day now)

Honorable Mentions & Unsung Heroes:
  • Turbo Tuner ST-300
  • SFX MicroThumpinator

  • Like
Reactions: Jared Lash
I swear my favorites change monthly...but, currently I'm digging on:

Boss ES-5 (Not so much a pedal, more of a life saver actually).
Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI (new version with mids control) LOVE this pedal.
MXR Bass Comp, always on, rock solid compressor.
MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe, my favorite chorus to date. (I've tried many :banghead:)
Digitech Polara, really digging this at the moment.

My current most important five pedals.

1. Iron Ether Xerograph

My most important pedal. Static low pass filter, envelope filter, wah & autowah sounds, synthy sweeps and more. I've tried a ton of other filters and it has remained king of the mountain for six or seven years or so. The next challenger will be a Mu-Fx Micro-Tron

2. JohnK Foundry

A BJFE Blueberry Bass OD and an Electronix Submarine in one enclosure. Each can be used on its own or the Blueberry can feed into the Submarine. My favorite and the most versatile overdrive I've owned - from clean boost to fat, furry tube tones to an aggressive modern grind. On its own the Submarine is a simple and great sounding preamp.

3. 3Leaf Octabvre Mk II

I've gone back and forth between this and the Aguilar Octamizer. Very different but both great sounding and versatile analog octavers. Right now the Octabvre is king due to the sub switch which I use a lot.

4. Origin Effects Cali76 Compact Bass

The only comp I've liked as much was my Retrospec Squeezebox and the Cali76 CB is a fraction of the size and is powered off a standard 9V power supply. Great compressor.

5. Earthquaker Dispatch Master

I've tried to go to separate reverb and delay pedals but this one is just easy to use, sounds great and does both jobs well while only taking up one spot on my board. I love it for fretless and ambient or synthy sounds.

I could name a hundred runners-up from over the years but the only other pedals I'm currently using are: TAFM, Bad Stone, Polytope, Subterranea, Turbo Tuner, and Prunes & Custard.

Ive always liked your taste in pedals... the standard Xerograph had been the mainstay of my pedalboard as well, and I'm also rocking the Dispatch Master, Bad Stone, and the Cali76CB.

Yeah, I think we have similar tastes in pedals.

As for the Xerograph, it's funny. Like you, my favorite filter for straight envelope filter sounds has been the 3Leaf Groove Regulator. I like it more than the Xero for that purpose but I'm always trying to keep my boards as small as possible and I like the Xero as a straight envelope enough that I just let it cover all the duties.

I think my situation has settled enough now. In no particular order...

Southampton 5th Gear V1
Dunwich VT
Empress Compressor
Southampton Ictineo
DG Vintage Ultra

I am such a pedal hoe. I own none of these currently. Sorry TB community, don’t believe a word that I say.

I don't have a lot of pedals (I've been selling what I don't use much), so five are probably all of them haha. In no particular order:

-EHX Freeze. Not in my pedalboard. However, I use it at home for studying purposes. It's also a fun pedal to play solo stuff. I really like it.

-Aguilar Fuzzistor. I didn't like it at the beginning. I was used to more aggresive fuzzes. However, when you learn how to use it, it just adds what the mix needs. I use it for certain parts and I'm really happy with it (and orange is my favourite colour so...)

-TC Electronic Hypergravity. Awesome compressor. So many possibilities. I love it.
-Ashdown Bearded Lady. Not in my pedalboard. But I like it. It does lose some lows but it has an awesome sound for certain things and I just like it. I think it has some sentimental value

-Aguilar Tonehammer. The best pre I've ever tried. Love it. Awesome EQ and the perfect DI. I use it when backline is provided to go direct, If I can take the amp with me, I prefer to use my amp.

In no particular order:

Roland RE-20 Space Echo: this can be clean to dirty/nasty/greasy delay with modulation from tape heads out of whack. And it LOVES to self-oscillate.

Electro-Harmonix HOG2: the only pitch shifter that can keep up with just about everything. With the foot controller I now have 99 presets, Freeze-Gliss is amazing and it just has an insane amount of sounds.

Boss PS-3 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay: this was my first delay (mostly cause of Isis the band). This is my oldest pedal I own currently and will never leave based on that and more. Mode 7 is fun, Mode 4/8 are great de-tuners, and it can even used with an expression pedal for a polyphonic whammy!

TWA Great Divide 2.0: this (to me) is the end-all analog Octaver and a lot more. Up to -2.6 with clean octave, SUB, or 4 different synth voices to choose from.
Badass faders with light tips.

Death Star Sovtek Muff (bias, gate, feedback mods: Guttermouth Mods: lo/hi mids,Tonebender/Muff footswitch, diodes blend, hi resistor, lo resistor, LED switch with diodes lift: Acid Splash Designs)
This crazy thing can go from a very light touch of hair to a MASSIVE wall of doom. I have yet to met a muff that will be able to battle it properly. If I do it will be one crazy battle.
