Here's my Xmas gift to myself, I've been dreaming about this amp for 3 years

It's a 50W tube amp, hand-made, and it only weights 4.2 Kg, but it has all the "heft" and "slam" you could expect for a tube amp. Completely silent (no fan, no hum or hiss). The controls allow for many different usable tones, from smooth&warm to "in your face", clean to dirt… (a rare quality for tube amps IMO)

What made you pick this amp? Wasn't there anything else on the market in the similar vein? Great cab, too!

I bought myself a Sansamp Programmable DI. After watching a bunch of Youtube and reading about much love for them from some on here I thought it would be a good way to set a level/patch for each of my two parts-basses. I use them alot and their sound is very different from each other and from my two stock basses.

But perhaps I'm just stupid, I don't get it. Fiddle, fiddle, adjust, save, curse, start over, fiddle, adjust, increase this, decrease that, save, curse some more.

So Merry Christmas to me, I think this thing will not be with me long. I'll stick to making adjustments on the amp as I have been when playing them.

Good question.

If I was an hypocrit, I would say that I wanted a tube amp, but not the usual weight of tube amps... that's partly true. I don't have a driving license, I go to gigs and reheasal by foot and public transport, I need to be able to carry gear easily.

But to be honnest, it's more of a love story (I fell in love with that amp). It was way above my budget and I didn't "need" it per say, but I was victim of an accident 3 years ago, and while I was at the hospital, I began to wonder how I would use the money from the insurance company if they compensated me. I finally received a generous compensation from them (after 2 years of negociation), and decided to spend 10% of that sum to treat myself with bass gear.

The closest amp I know in term of specs would be the Ampeg PF50, but I don't like the weight, and I don't think it is visually appealing. And for ethic reasons, I prefer giving money to a local (european) craftman who hand builds tailored amps with love and passion, than to a big international corporation.

The cab is a GR Bass NF210.

Let's see those Aerodynes! I know y'all picked some up from FGW on Reverb for Black Friday too! Snapped this before putting it under the tree; couldn't be happier with it. I'd have no idea it wasn't brand new someone didn't tell me!

I picked up the exact same one, Couldn't resist the price. And like yours mine looks and plays like brand new. All I had to do was set the intonation and it was good to go. They sound Great.

Wow, lots of pretty basses in this one! While I lightened my stable of one of my two Rickenbackers and got a Gibson Ripper, I think the real Christmas gift to myself was my girlfriends reaction (she's a singer and not into gear/instruments other than drums). I take the bass out of the case and am checking out the checking and wear. She's being polite and hanging out while I do this and looking at it as well.

Turns to me and says "So was this, like, owned by someone famous or something?". I felt like Han Solo hearing Luke call the Falcon a hunk of junk, but it made me chuckle.
