I came this close to buying one. I had just bought my 1967 Porsche 912 in the late 1970's when I came across a clean example back in the 70's. 351 Cleveland with a Getrag 5 speed transmission. That sucker was brutal. Figured I'd probably kill myself so I passed.

I'm enjoying this thread. Owned several of the older cars listed here or ones similar to them... my first two cars were a 1957 Chevy Nomad and a 1966 Malibu convertible. Then I left home and discovered handling;)

My favorite three of what I've owned would probably be my 2000 BMW Z3 Coupe, my 1999 Miata w/hardtop and the 67 Porsche. They're all fun to drive flat out.

Even before looking I knew the one that came to mind first for me would not be listed. My Mom's first car was in a picture in our hallway for several years. She liked the pic because of everyone's expression in the shot. I liked it because it had that 1938 four door Chevy Sedan.

That thing became the very definition of cool to me. If I ever have the kind of money to consider doing such a thing, I will put a 1938 Chevy Sedan body on top of a modern frame and drivetrain. I can even picture how I'd paint it already.

Otherwise? I'd like another '67 GTO. I miss mine. Maybe a more serious modern SUV, like a diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee. I like the idea of combining a 730 mile/tank range with the ability to tow a decent load.

LOVE me some Nomads!

I've recently taken to watching a reality show called Fast & Loud. One of their recent builds was a '56 Nomad for Dale Earnhart Jr. Basically they found a pretty good one to begin with and put a crate engine in it and did a Diet Mountain Dew colored paint scheme.

I was less impressed than with several of their other projects on the show. But the final result was pretty darned cool.

My favourite car that I owned was my first - a 1972 Holden Statesman with a 307 Chevy engine. Not incredibly fast, but it could sit on 100mph effortlessly for hours.

I had a friend who owned an old Porche 911, and since he used to drink a lot, I often drove it. Still one of the nicest handling cars I've driven, and just great fun to drive.

But the meanest car I ever drove was a 2010 BMW M3 (a 6 speed manual). My brother-in-law got me invited to one of the corporate things where you get to drive all sorts of fancy cars. Those M3s are very luxurious to drive, and they're also rocket ships when put your foot down. Damn that thing was fast! I also drove a Ferrari on the same day, and while it was incredibly fast, it was noisy, uncomfortable, and was a pig to drive in slow traffic (especially with that horrible paddle shift). Not something I would want to drive every day. The M3 though - a beast, but with very nice manners.

1. Subaru RS2.5, ideally with a WRX STI conversion but whatever, the best looking Subaru's ever, not that it says much.

2. Shelby Cobra. 289 or 427 honestly either one. Just love the raw simplicity of those beasts.

3. My 1st Gen Subaru Legacy. Kills it in the snow, hauls my equipment to my gigs, lots of good times and laughs in and around my little station wagon.

You know, it's not bad looking, but it looks like every other small coupe/sedan these days. There are very few current models that stand out to me. About the only one that perks up my eyebrows is the Fiat 500. The Abarth models are hawt.

Just...this.

Almost every car I see now looks similar and in most cases they are the same car (Kia Optima/Hyundai Sonata, Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra)...

...and even then, a lot of them looked like they threw molten metal into a wind tunnel.

It true here too. Australia used to build fantastic cars, that looked like nothing else in the world. Half the cars you see now are just rebadged versions of one another. There's just no sense of individuality of style with most modern cars. They're all just inbred versions of other cars, like they've all married their first cousins, and spat out little "Stepford" cars.

Stupid "aerodynamics". They may as well just shape them all like suppositories and just stamp on the manufacturer's name. Actually some of them already look like they're just meant to be driven up an ..........! ;)
